Cycle Portland is a full service shop. We loved their staff, the tour and our bikes. This was our first activity in the city and was a great way to get oriented and see what it offered. We enjoyed our time on wheels so much, we decided to rent them for the duration of our trip. Kurt helped us figure out how to get to the coast, Astoria, with our bikes by taking an express bus ride.

Very friendly and patient staff. Wide selection of rental bikes and the bikes and equipment are in excellent condition. We appreciated their maps and recommendations. Just a great experience from beginning to end.

Took the light rail from my hotel to cycle portland. They set me up with a bicycle and our guide was Kevin. He took us on a nice leisurely ride around the city stopping everyvso often to tell us the history of Portland. Really enjoyed the ride. I came back every morning and rented a bike so I could tour the city on my own.

In August 2024 a group of 19 ranging in age from 16 to 64 took the Essential Portland tour on electric bikes. Since the initial contact the team at Cycle Portland worked with us to develop a seamless trip. The ebikes were fun and evened out the different ability levels of the group. When we arrived our names were on the bikes and only needed minor seat adjustments, there were plenty of helmets and we got started quickly. Biking has become one of our favorite ways to learn, see and go places we probably wouldn’t go if not on a bike. Our tour guides Charlotte and Donovan were terrific and gave us suggestions for places to eat and visit during our short time in Portland. It was nice to have residents of the city give us insights into the city. I would highly recommend this tour!!

Our guide Donovan gave it the true local's touch!
I thought I knew a good chunk of Portland's history but was pleased to discover more right down to the fact that much of the bike infrastructure could be credited to one amazing senior city councillor decades ago.
Nice route, safe, and fun.
Easy riding, mostly flat.

A fantastic experience. The staff at the shop were very friendly and helpful. Useful customer toilet was spotless. The bikes and helmets were well maintained and clean. Tour goes up river on one bank and down river on the opposite bank. Donovan was a great lead maintaining a pace to suit everyone, keeping the dialogue witty and informative and keeping the group safe at intersections. All in all a great morning and a great way to get a feel for this great city.

My husband and I enjoyed a three hour foodie bike tour in downtown Portland. Our guide Donovan was amazing! He shared a great deal of Portland history with us while keeping us safe on the road. We enjoyed the variety of food at the Hawthorn Asylum food carts.

We went on a tour with Charlotte and it was great! He had good knowledge of the history of Portland and went at a good pace. We got an extended bike rental and rode around the city for a couple hours longer. He can recommend some good places to go. I hadn’t rode a bike in YEARS and this experience made me want a bike again. Thank you!

Hi, my sister is an adult with Down syndrome. We bought her an e-trike from an east coast company. Trikes are essential options for people with disabilities (physical and/or intellectual/developmental). I'm surprised no bike tour companies in Portland offer the option of choosing a trike or e-trike (e-trikes (electric trikes) help those with mobility/strength issues or joint pain ride pain free and conquer uphill/uneven terrain). Please try to add such options to your rental choices (and see how you can adjust your routes accordingly)... it will make your tours much more accommodating and accessible. Thank you!

On the essential bike tour what is the start time and the duration of the tour ? Also it looks like a picture of Multnomah Falls does the tour get that far ?

The bike tour does not go to Multnomah Falls but it was a great way to see the city. My guide was a native of Portland and knew so much about the city. It was an easy eight mile ride except for one hill!

Thank you for reaching out! - we currently have one child trailer (viewable on our rental page) which can fit two riders, or up to 100lbs(45kg) of weight. We don't have toddler bike seats at this time but there are a few other rental shops in the area which may have those available.

Thanks for reaching out! - The info fro AgNeSeSaP is spot on, we typically recommend bringing some extra layers and a pair of gloves just in case, our shop provides free raingear. If not sure about the weather, the best bet would be to check the forecast and make that decision about 2 days out (our booking refund window)

How heavy will rain showers have to be before tour is cancelled and will I get a refund ?

My experience is that rain is normal, but snow and torrential rain would be cause to cancel. These were good folks and didn't seem interested in anything but good service to their customers. However, it only takes one bad experience to ruin your tour.
Good breathable rain wear is advised for anyone.

Do you bike on sidewalks or trails or in streets?

Hi there!
Thanks for the question! Our tours travel solely on designated bike paths and streets as bicycles are not allowed on the sidewalks by law. Some of our bike paths are shared bike/pedestrian paths, that may be what padele969 is thinking of. As others have observed, the street riding is pretty mellow here in Portland.
We do not pick up or drop off at hotels, but we are more than happy to help you navigate public transportation to and from anywhere in the city. All of our tours leave from the shop in Old Town/Chinatown. Feel free to give us a call if you have any questions about specific tour routes!

Hi, I am planning to take bike tour on 25th November. I am not good at riding a bicycle.. Even if I can just ride a bicycle... I mean, can't speed up ... or going up a hill. Is it still okay? ㅠㅠ !

Hello. You are welcome to come to the shop before your tour to practice for a few minuets before the group leaves. This way you can get comfortable with the bike and getting it up to speed. Most groups travel around 10mph. a very casual pace.
