I have never been treated so badly before. Over 9 months of COVID, I have worn a shield. The governors mandate says I am able to wear a shield. I work in food, deal with health inspector, I am allowed to wear my shield. I go to my Dr. and am able to wear my shield. I have panic attacks and cannot breath in masks. I walk into Buffalo Exchange when it first opens with NO ONE ELSE IN THE STORE BUT EMPLOYEES. When I first walk in, the first employee tells me I am not allowed to shop there with it on and I must cover it up with a cloth (not done nicely) then my daughter goes out to her car to get something for me, I cover up the bottom of my shield so it is still off my mouth (yet still covering my face). I walk into the store more with ALL the employees watching just me, another employee told me that still was not ok, I explained to her that the lady at the door told me it was ok, just so long as the opening was covered. Then the original employee from the door comes over and tells me something different that I have to be in full mask. I explain the mandate, the Dr., etc, etc, etc. she said no, I am not allowed to shop here unless I have a full mask on. So we walked out and walked into ALL the other shops, spending hundreds that we were going to spend in Buffalo. I guess their second hand clothing store did not need my money. You do not treat people that way.

Wow, we were so delighted to stumble across this store after exploring Powell's as they had exactly what we had forgotten to pack for our trip to Portland! I bought a sweatshirt and a funky gold shirt for a costume, and both items were extremely clean and seemed almost new! The service was also great.

Over the years, this branch of Buffalo Exchange has improved its quality of clothing. I used to have to look pretty carefully to make sure there were no secret stains or missing buttons. But these days, while I still look for flaws, most of the time I go home content with my purchases and stay content in the weeks that follow. Decent pricing. My shopping secret: after researching what the trends of the upcoming season are, I go shopping here. I pay a lot of money for my pants and sweaters downtown, and get my dress shirts and sports gear here for a fraction of the cost I would buy them new.
If you're selling: the lines can get ridiculously long! I've tried selling back maybe four times, and sometimes I get someone nice (who takes some things), but I've had a gal reject the whole bag of clothes I brought, not taking a single item. : (

We stopped at this shop just to get out of the rain for a little bit, only to end up walking out with bags and bags of newly found treasures. I found several items for my kids and of course lots of items for my husband and myself. I also like if you spend a certain amount of money they give you a token to put in a box of your choice of charities. We will definitely come back to this store on our next trip out.

I was in search for a good thrift store with quality items but not average, my friends this was it! They had a huge selection, everything was in amazing condition! It was priced to sell! I didn’t think it smelled musty as some say! If you want a good deal on name brand stuff like Frye boots ect... things off the beaten path, come here! You won’t be disappointed! I have two young daughters and they did just fine, they have seating and lots of hats for them to try on.

I loved buffalo in New Orleans for variety of choices. Here is just for people wearing overalls . Plus most of the clothes are worn off badly. I tried to re-sell stuff I bought and never wore and it wAnt accepted. I think I may be too old for that place .

The Buffalo Exchange is yet another Portland thrift shop. This one is just off SE Hawthorn on SE 37th Ave in a cool location. It is close to Powell Books, a block away from The Bagdad Theater. And need I mention that Hawthorn is a melting pot of just about every type of person you can find roaming the city streets. All mixed together in a weird casting call of characters. You have your old hippies, Hipsters, Punks, Travellers, Vacationers, wannabees, and even Joe and Jane average citizen.
I strolled into the Buffalo Exchange to check it out and see what they had. Like most thrift shops it has a wide variety of used items. All in good shape. A place where you can wander around and see what catches your fancy or fills our your latest mix and match fashion to make your own statement. Maybe you'll find that something you forgot about but always wanted.
They also buy items that people decide to part with for whatever reason. So you might consider this a place to go to after you have reviewed what you have that you wish to part. Then bring them here to make a wee bit of dosh and lighten your load. And share them with the thrift store fanatics.
I saw they had hats, shirts, shoes, sunglasses. You name it they had it. And at a lot less than what you pay for new threads.

Following a visit to Powell's, the huge bookstore, we ambled across the street to the Buffalo Exchange. I'm not sure if this is the same one as the address on my receipt says 1038 W Burnside Street which I remember is the same street as Powells...so maybe they have another store in town.
This is a place that thrives on finding and reselling old but unworn...or lightly worn clothing at reasonable prices. My girls loved not know what they would find and both found treasures to bring home that will always remind them of our visit to Portland.
Even I found a shirt that they liked and it's one of the better souvenirs I've ever purchased. The mix of people shopping was amazing...along with the locals were tourists from the west coast, east coast and a family from Germany buying everything that fit their son's.
If you are stopping in to be wowed at Powell's House of Books...it's worth a visit to a block sized book seller...then a stop across the street to the Buffalo Exchange is recommended...like us, who knows what treasure you'll find!
