Went on a Tuesday and it was really slow. I had a high expectation based on the area it was located. My friend and I ordered off the happy hour menu. Flat iron steak and potatos. I also ordered the salad.The food was presented nicely LOOKED delicious. I should have asked for the dressing on the side it was drenched.The flat iron steak was cooked correctly but very underseasoned as were the potatos.I had to use a ton of salt.Our waitress was very nice and friendly. I think there are a lot of better establishments in Portland(H5O for example).While we were eatting the staff spent most of the time rearranging tables and chairs around the dining room .Not exactly what you plan on watching while dining.Just really a let down.

Went to Thirst on very short notice (10 minutes heads up) as a group of 12 on a busy night which should have been taxing on their staff and quaint location, but not only did they handle the challenge, they exceeded our expectations for quality of service and atmosphere. The bar has an artsy and relaxing feel and the menu is creative. With whimsical specialty drinks and a selection of local spirits it made for a very memorable night. Would highly recommend for a romantic night out, or to just enjoy a nice drink down by the water.

Gourmet appetizers. Many reasonably priced Happy Hour items. I had the Seafood Bisque and the Baked Brie in pastry with french bread. slices. Perfect companions to their delicious local wines. Very romantic window seat for two along the Williamette with views of the marina and bridges at sunset. Owners provided outstanding, friendly service. We'll definitely return.

As a visitor to the Portland area you may not be lucky enough to stumble upon Thirst. In fact, you may not even stumble upon Thirst as a resident of Portland. Short and simple, you need to make time to visit Thirst if you are looking for a fantastic dinner. The location isn't bad either, providing a front row seat on the Willamette River.
Our visit was a Thursday night prior to a show at Keller Auditorium. Server was outstanding, he was well versed on the menu selections including a list of local wines and spirits. He made good recommendations as well. The only thing that was better than the service was the food. If shellfish bisque is on the menu, order it, and then recommend everyone at your table order it.

We went there for an afternoon wine tasting. The setting is quite nice with the restaurant situated right next to the Willamette River. Our server was knowledgeable about wines and helped us pick them out for the tasting. The tasting wasn't too expensive and if you purchased wine you got some of it back. We were told that they constantly are rotating there wines on the tasting menu. Would go there to taste wines again.

Unlike most, I went there for dessert. Which was really good, but expensive. $7 for a slice of chocolate cake. Great atmosphere though, right on the Willammatte.

Thirst has a great location so it's not unusual to find less than fantastic food at high prices and sub par service but this place really lowers the bar. Totally average food at premium prices but service so bad it almost didn't seem real. Two of us ate, one "grilled" meal arrived while we waited more than 5 minutes for gazpacho and a Caesar salad to arrive. The people at the table next to us left after waiting more than 10 minutes for drinks that never arrived. When we raised the poor service with the manager, he first ignored the complaint and then he and another became confrontational and complained that they were busy (which they weren't, particularly for a late summer Fri night) and their two kitchens had no way to communicate to time when orders are completed. When we pointed out that it's not our problem if they can't handle a rush, they said they would cpver our meal (part of which we never ate) and told us to leave immediately. Hate to tell you Thirst, but we eat out to be waited on by you - we aren't all in it together because you're stressed...hope the next restaurant does well in that location after you close down.

Horrible....worst experience we have ever had at a restaurant.
We love food. We eat at about 50 restaurants a month. My husband is a classically trained chef at the Culinary Institute of America. Did I mention we LOVE food?
The waiter at this restaurant was so rude and aggressive, all the patrons at the outdoor tables were actually discussing it. On top of this angry attitude, he actually forgot half our dinners! After two were served, we waited an additional 30 minutes and asked about the food, and he simply told us he forgot to put in our order. No apologies or offers....nothing. He simply brought the bill. My husband forced me to leave 10% tip which I reluctantly did. Then, we left, starving.
Now I know why all the other cafes were packed and Thirst has only a handful of patrons....

We went with a local to Thirst, as he has been there before and enjoys it. Thursday nights they have free wine tastings of three Northwest wines. They were focusing on one winery in Washington. All the wines were very good. We shared the crab dip for an appetizer and all ordered the pulled pork on polenta. There was a good amount of food for a reasonable price. The food was great.
The wine tasting was casual and informative. It reminded me of winetasting in the Finger Lakes Region of NY. No pretentiousness, all friendliness.

Wow - a wine bar without attitude and that has a beautiful view, good food and a great selection of wines. Albeit they focus on Pacific Northwest wines, not something I usually gravitate toward - but their selection is delicious and the staff knows how to point you to what you will like. For the adventirous - they also have wine flights which looked fun! Check it out!!
