I came to Pip’s as part of a team building event while visiting Portland for business. And this is a very different kind of entertainment nitch bar. I had never seen a ping pong themed bar and was curious. There was perhaps 40 of us in the group and we had the private room/bar area. It was great space with several ping pong tables, a dedicated bar and very few chairs/stools. So the evening was entirely on my feet, which tired me early. Those that enjoy ping pong will love this place, especially that there are buckets of ping pong balls at every table. So if an errant shot sends the ball three tables over, just get another ball.
But if your not big on ping pong, there is still a bar with a disinterested and under-knowledged young person there to serve you drinks. She (the bartender) was real good at opening cans of beer, but don’t ask for a cocktail. I asked for a Cadillac Margarita and she asked “that’s the one with cranberry juice, right”. Never mind, give me a Coors Light please... :/
But if your not big on ping pong, there is still a bar with a disinterested and under-knowledged young person there to serve you drinks. I booked a team outing at Pip and Bounce. We reserved the large portion of the space and had food and drinks were provided for guests. The space itself is nice. Equipment is in good condition, the space is clean, open, bright and overall a nice atmosphere, plus it is really easy to get to via car, bike or public transit. Parking is fairly easy although not always free; spaces closest to Pip's are metered parking but there are some free spots if you are willing to walk a bit.
Now for the not so happy part. The food I ordered was a tossed salad, pizza and a hummus plate. Hummus plate was okay but the pizza was cold and the salad was down right gross. It wasn't just wilted, a large portion of it had gone bad, slimy pieces of lettuce mixed in with wilted pieces. I can't believe they even felt it was okay to pass it off as okay to eat. I asked to have the salad remade which they did however, the pizza is brought in from another company so we were stuck with it. Our bartender was not friendly nor helpful. You would think someone in customer service would at least crack a smile every once in a while and not make snide remarks when asked about specifics of the drinks she was serving. I walked out the door after 2 hours, crappy food and less then unenthusiastic service with a $600 bill which included a forced 20% gratuity. Will not be headed back any time soon.

Went here after dinner for a while to play ping pong with friends.
It is a unique place and a lot of fun.
They have a bar which makes it even more interesting after a few drinks.

ping pong with groups and drinks: what a great combination! Nice open area with lots of ping pong tables to hang out and play

Combining cocktails and Ping Pong is either a very good idea or a very bad idea. In either case, it's fun.
I'm not sure how many ping-pong bars (Table-tennis taverns if you prefer) there are in the world, so when I found Pip's and Bounce while researching our visit to Portland, I had to schedule a visit.
They rent their tables by the half hour, the rates include paddles and a bottomless bucket of balls. ( This is a key feature, since you don't have to spend time chasing stray balls. They just sweep them up periodically.)
I just had a soft drink, but Mrs W had one of their signature cocktails and sang its praises.
We had a great time. There was lot's of elbow room, the decor was bright and 70's funky.
It's a must stop if you enjoy ping-pong and are visiting Portland.

I had a great time playing ping pong, and meeting new friends. Watch out for flying ping pongs because they're everywhere!

Si vous aimez le ping-pong et avez envie d'échanger quelques balles pendant que vous êtes à Portland, Pips & Bounce est l'endroit parfait !
Les tables sont de très bonne qualité (les raquettes sont un peu plus basiques) et l'endroit est très lumineux en journée.
Si vous voulez juste y aller entre potes pour boire des verres et alterner les parties, profitez de l'happy hour où la première demi-heure de ping-pong est gratuite avec votre premier verre.
Nous avons passé 2h là-bas pendant un après-midi pluvieux et avons beaucoup apprécié ce moment.

Every city in the U.S. should copy this idea immediately. First you get your balls & paddles, then you get your drinks, then you drink while playing ping pong. And when the balls bounce away, you just let 'em and grab some more. There are balls everywhere - they pick them up later. At certain times they'll even switch to black lights, where all the balls and the lines on the tables glow in the dark. And of course the more you drink, the more fun it becomes. Genius idea. This would be a great place to have a party.
