Beautiful Lake

Our 1st time going to Walton Lake Campground” bear Prineville. We really enjoyed the area. Quite and secluded area! You can walk around the lake in a matter of 20 to 30 minutes.

Trout fishing anyone?

Amazing trout fishing here at Walton lake. The trout taste like salmon out of this lake. I catch my limit every time I go here within an hours time( limit 5 fish). Parking lot closed during winter season, but its worth the half mile walk from the highway at that time of year.

Clean campsite on kid-friendly, little lake

On the spur of the moment, we decided to camp here for a few nights. The campsites were clean, pretty roomy and had fire pits, and the campground had clean toilets, and very nice hosts. The lake is little but charming. There is a trail that runs around the lake which is a nice, easy hike. My boys loved riding their bikes around the campground and lake (which is small enough that you can see them even if they are on the other side of the lake). There were kids kayaking and swimming and about a dozen people fishing. The only downsides, in my opinion, was that the sites weren't very private; we could see and hear all of our neighbors. And we hear the campground can get pretty busy in the peak summer months. This is a good spot for families with kids.

We camped one night at Walton Lake Campground.
1. The campground area was clean.
2. Bunch of cleaned - vault restrooms.
3. Provided with combination of fire ring and grill.- I would suggest to bring your own grill rack or aluminium because the provided grill has big gaps between the parallel thin metal ( i hope you know what i mean).. haha
4. Bring alot of drinking water.
5. The host was friendly and they sell firewood $6.
6. The lake... hurmmm.. the host told us we can swim in the lake, but i dont think so. The water is fresh and clean. But there was alot of small bugs (thats normal) and people fishing, and alot of small cute friendly ducks.
7. You will wake up with the sounds of these ducks.
8. Overall, it is a family- friendly campground. They have bigger spaces for bigger groups.

Intimate lake and campground, great getaway with no cell service (yay!)

I camped at Walton Lake for 4 nights starting on a Thursday in mid-July. I was expecting crowds for the weekend based on what I had read online. However the day use parking is very limited, maybe a dozen sites or so total and the location is a bit remote so even with a full day use area it was very quiet. The tent walk in sites are definitely the best with views and proximity to the lake and privacy from the road and day use people. There are 6 walk in tent sites and sites 20 and 21 are the only sites with parking on the same side of the road as the sites. Sites 22, 24 and 25 have parking directly across from the sites. Site 23 has their parking spot across the road and up from the site. I'm mentioning this because when you are hauling stuff to walk in sites, the closer the better. Sites 23, 24 and 25 have to park parallel and have limited room. Site 22 has ample room for two vehicles or a vehicle and a tow, etc. As does sites 20 and 21 (which are ideal since you park on the same side of the road as your site). Walton Lake had a great trail around the lake and there is so much wildlife to view. I wouldn't consider it a swimming lake but people were swimming in the murky waters. Great for teaching youngsters to kayak or for lazy sunning days on a raft. Definitely lots of people fishing although in 4 days there I didn't get a glimpse of any catch. The host was very friendly and helpful. I recommend this for anyone wanting to unplug or to have a great time with family or friends in this beautiful area.

Beautiful lake, peaceful

Beautiful lake, peaceful for fishing. There's a fishing pier (in direct sunlight) and areas of shade around the lake.

Little and lovely

We drove through and saw some attractive campsites. Easily accessible. Has just pit toilets. Lovely, little lake.

Not Thoreau's Lake but just as restful

Great little man maid lake. Good camping on two sides of the lake. It is high up in Ochoco Mts. They close off the road to the campground come winter snows. It didn't open up for camping this year until (2016) May. Great for taking kids to learn how to fish or learn how to handle a kyak or canoe. Almost all campsights have a great view of the lake. Their is a nice trail around the lake. There is a boat launch, NO MOTORS. They regulary stock the lake with trout. There is group camping, tent and RV sites. Many of the sites are reservable on line. A nice little lake for both young and old. There is even a wheelchair accesable fishing dock.
