Incredible art- not so incredible facilities
2021年7月 • 家庭
As a few others have remarked, the artistry is incredible but the state of the facility is abominable. There are broken- down cars everywhere, campers and a home that I am amazed anyone could live in it. The “museum “ is a wreck on the outside. We couldn’t go in, however, even though it was during posted hours and even though I called the number on the sign as directed because the person who answered said she couldn’t open the museum because she was babysitting her grandchild. The walkways around the Statue of Liberty and Capital structures were crumbling. It looks like there once was a picnic area but the area is unkempt. A few tables with umbrellas and a manicured area, plus upkeep on the grounds, removal of the campers and vehicles and a museum open stated hours would allow this gem to be grand again. Alas I don’t think it is worth the money because it doesn’t appear that the money is being used to maintain the site. It is a shame what is happening to this man’s incredible life‘s work.

The artistry is a 10, management a 1.

What a phenomenal place this could be with the right ownership! Current owners (family?) have let it run down so poorly that it is actually shameful. So very sad that the creative & hardworking efforts of Mr Peterson have been allowed to basically sit & rot away. But even in it’s shabby appearance it is also amazing to see so I would definitely recommend a visit. You just have to overlook all the weeds, crappy background & try to focus on the artistic genius of what he built with all the gorgeous rocks! I surely wish an investor would come along & but it, perk it up & restore it to it’s original wonder! Most gorgeous rocks & creations I’ve ever seen! The peacocks are still there& they definitely add to the fun, they are beautiful. We visited on July 3,2021. Gift shop & museum said open, but door was locked with a note to call to get in. We waited 15 minutes for someone to show up. 🙄 If you’re going to run a business, then actually RUN A BUSINESS. Just so very sad to see this wonderful place under such poor management.

Very rundown and in need of care. It's good days have past but still worth the visit. Recommend visiting when here. Peacocks were beautiful.

Worth $10!!

This garden holds a special place in my heart as I used to visit here as a child. The artistry and dedication put into its creation helped me to overlook the lack of caretaking. I loved watching the peafowl strut their stuff and even got to pet a sweet pup. It needs TLC and I hope someone will give it the attention it deserves. To lose a treasure like this would be tragic.

Amazing Find in Central Oregon

This site is amazing! Yes, it is a little run down, but the sheer artistry and dedication that went into this work is beyond words. The museum and gift shop were open. The added attracion of the peacocks wondering the site gave it a fairy tale feeling. This is a central Oregon treasure that should be seen by all. It is worth the trip.

We drove by and viewed this site from the road. The origionator clearly put a lot of effort into this, but it has seen better days.

Legacy badly in need of Love
2019年10月
Very interesting folk art. The effort of one man, he began constructing the garden in 1935 at the age of 52, using rocks he found near his home (85-mi radius). He built mini castles, buildings, churches & replicas of USA monuments. He incorporated bridges, water features & landscaping. He passed away in 1952 & evidently the garden remains in his family's care. I use the term “care” loosely as it is need of a lot of TLC. There was no one there when we visited, so we put our fee in the provided lock box & wandered around this little gem showcasing one man’s passion. The museum was closed so we weren’t able to see what that was like. The imaginative artistry is lovely, and done with such a variety of rocks, glass, shells and passion. We happened to be in the area which is why we took the time to visit. Glad we did, bit honestly, it is not a site I would tell someone they “must see”, or go out of your way to visit. That said, this genre of folk art is part of history, and that is always worth seeing and appreciating.

Go but don't expect to much.

By all means go to Petersen Rock Garden. If you can look past the neglect you can see the beauty of this art. The place is run down but still worth the visit.

A unique review of this man's life
2019年9月
My wife and I visited here on 9/7/19. It is inconceivable to me that this place of beauty can be so run down. It was after 10a but on one at the Museum and no one to break a $20 for the entry fee. Weeds and peacock poo everywhere. It was worth just seeing the fantastic work this man did and feel maybe the City of Redmond could step in and make this a showcase for their city.

Amazing Work of a Lifetime
2019年9月
If you read other reviews, some mention the attraction being in disrepair. I can’t disagree, but still worth the visit. The rock garden is the achievement of one man’s dream and hard work. He did a wonderful job. The man died and a distant relative now runs it.
When we went the grounds were mowed and the exhibits had some weeds here and there. Don’t let that stop you. $6.00 to get in and stroll among exhibits that were a labor of love. There are bridges that crossover beautiful ponds covered with lily pads and cattails. Peacocks roam the grounds as well.
If you are in Redmond, treat yourself.
