This is a National Park! It’s probably the smallest one they have! The description on the sign of the sight is based on a story told by an indigenous persons grandfather who saw two white med boiling salt water. Interesting.

This is a quick stop that packs a lot of history! This is a very accessible location with an extraordinarily short walk to the site. While there isn’t a lot of variety with this location what is there is in great shape. It is amazing to me the innovation they demonstrated to help preserve the necessary food to make their trek back east. Very interesting.
Quick tip: if you collect The National Park Passport cancellation stamps, you can collect your stamp for this location at the Fort Clatsop Lewis and Clark site.

This was a fun little bit of a history spot. Very easy to get to either by foot or car. Worth the few minutes it took to visit.

The Salt Works is a small piece of the Lewis and Clark National Historic Park. It can be found just off the Promenade. You can also drive up to it. It depicts how the Lewis and Clark expedition made salt when needed. Just a 5 minute stop or so but fascinating. Kind of strange to see in a residential area. Worth looking for if you are into Lewis and Clark history.

Great historical site within walking distance from downtown Seaside Oregon. It shows the location where early settlers made their own salt from ocean water to preserve their meats.

There is a lot of Lewis and Clark history in the area and this particular item is unique. Lewis and Clark had no salt left for their return trip so this cairn is where they evaporated sea water to collect the salt they needed. It's a 10-minute stop at most, but interesting.

This attraction suffers from the fact that is in Seaside, Oregon. Seaside is one of the tackiest, dirtiest, ugliest beach cities in Oregon. We made the mistake of staying in this city and will never make that mistake again. We did not find one decent restaurant in the city. This attraction is a log with 4 buckets on it. It talks about boiling away the water and capturing the salt. Allow 5 minutes. Better yet, do not come look at it because you will be in Seaside. Go somewhere nicer like Canon Beach or Newport.

This was so simple. Boiling seawater to accumulate salt for preserving meat and fish for their humble diet, Lewis and Clark were ahead of the times. Sure, it took a bit of time, but they had reached the Pacific Ocean so now it was time to relax, put their feet up, and enjoy the music of the wild ocean.

Relaxing in beach chair near the pounding surf. - the best. Loved great selection of groceries at Safeway- bit surprising, considering the small population. This enabled family to eat healthy & omit restaurant meals... only a few the whole week. Glad for family friendly accommodations at River Tide Inn & Suites. Despite rains all week, managed to enjoy ocean side views at point ocean met large river, north of Seaside a few miles - a state park.
