I have been on the highway in PA about three times now and this time we started in Ronks and went west to Bedford.
There are several quirky sights to see... Turkey Hill Experience, Shoe House, Coffee Pot, Big Quarter, Bison Farm, Elephant Museum, The Igloo, Dunkel's Gulf...and some sights that require more time (PA Dutch Country, Gettysburg, Flight 93 Memorial). There are also motor courts, old gas stations and quaint towns with roundabouts lined with interesting shops. You can easily make several days of the trip and that's not including nearby attractions off the highway such as the Johnstown Flood Museum and the Johnstown Flood National Memorial, as well as a few other National Parks (Fort Necessity, Portage Railroad et al) and Frank Lloyd Wright's iconic Fallingwater. There are forests and mountains (30 crests Tuscarora, the Blue Ridge, Ararat...) - scenic views for miles from the summits. Oh, and then there's Pittsburgh. Have fun!

This is not a road you take in order to make the fastest time across Pennsylvania (that's what the Interstate is for), but by driving along the Lincoln Highway, you can sort of take a trip back in time, to see some of the old towns along the way. While you probably won't want to drive the entire length of it, you can find a town with some neat roadside attractions (such as in Bedford or Lancaster), and just admire the unique scenery.

We started in Bedford and traveled about 60-75 miles along this scenic road. Stopped several times to see the local sights.

Rather than drive the Pennsylvania Turnpike, we opted to take this historic Lincoln Highway from Breezewood to our B&B in Schellsburg, PA. It was a lovely, leisurely drive with little traffic. It is shame that when they build a new road the old one gets forgotten. We passed some interesting, what I call, reclaimed by nature homes and businesses. We are always curious as to why the occupants left.

ONly 1 reason to travbel Lincoln highway-- exorbitant costs to use PA Turnpike. Much catastrophic waste of taxpayers' dollars, worst of which is "coffee pot."

A great drive through small town America. It is an easy drive. There are many interesting non chain establishments as well as the familiar chain.

If you have some time and just want to take in the sites, this is a nice little drive. Rolling countryside with a few surprises thrown in.

Enjoyed seeing some of the historic and quirky sights along the Old Lincoln Highway through Bedford County.
Many were difficult to see because of traffic and placement. But it was still fun to catch a glimpse on the way passed.

There were a number of antique shops we encountered while driving the Lincoln Highway between Irwin and Bedford. I searched online ahead of time and had a list with addresses, as a few were just off Rt. 30.

There's a cute vintage Gulf Station - Dunkle's - tucked into the corner of the Lincoln Highway where it intersects with West Street in the town of Bedford. While the pumps are contemporary, the building is decorated with art deco tiles - and the station attendant (a woman) who filled our gas tank, also washed the car's windshield & back window (really a trip to the past). Don't forget to visit the Coffee Pot building while you're there & be sure to take your camera.
