Share the story of this American saint. The Mission Center grounds are beautiful. The chapel is made of splendid wood. Learn the history and marvel at the achievements of this member of the famed Drexel family. Meditate, relax and take in the beauty. It is a place for all to visit and enjoy.

I loved to go to the shrine. I used to go there as a little girl with my girlfriend....her Dad used to take us down there. It was a wonderful place to just have some quiet time....a beautiful piece of property. Mother Katherine was a wonderful woman who devoted her life to educating the Black and Indian children of our country, giving up her riches to do this. Sadly, the place has been sold and a developer is going to turn it into homes. I purchased a memory brick (that was on the path to Mother Katherine's burial place) with the names of my late parents and brother's name on it. I got in touch with the lawyer who is representing the developer and he said he would get back to me but that was a few months ago. I hope they keep some of the beautiful buildings that are on the property.

This place was another world. Mother Katharine gave up a life of wealth and privilege to found a Roman Catholic order of nuns..These grounds embodied serenity. I know people of all faiths who visited here for solace and meditation. It will be missed.

Unfortunately the shrine of Katherine Drexel closed a few months ago. This was a breathtaking place to sit and pray, mediitate and talk to God. I miss the Shrine very much.

Last Friday I spent 4 hours in the peaceful serenity of this place. Since 1891 this shrine has provided a beacon of light, but sadly it will be closed on December 31st. The causes St. Katharine espoused are as important today as they were during her lifetime, but with a dwindling number of Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament (most of whom are of an advanced age) and a shortage of funds, this is the reality that must be faced. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained; take time to savor them and feel the grace they impart. The chapel is an understated work of art and an architectural treasure. While there take time to study the French porcelain, hand-painted Stations of the Cross. They are small, but exquisite. Beneath the chapel, you can visit the crypt of Saint Katharine. Just outside the crypt, you may view an excellent video about St. Katharine, and on this level you will also see her habit, her desk, her family altar, a number of her personal belongings, and pictures and text that will enrich your visit. Her family, her drive, her devotion, and her accomplishments are inspirational to anyone who visits - whether Catholic or not. Before you leave, stop at the gift shop where you will find an excellent selection of books, devotional items, and quality handmade items. I particularly encourage African Americans to go there - as well as anyone of American Indian heritage.

Before it closes, the Drexel shrine is a place to see. The architecture alone is amazing and the story of Saint Katherine is inspiring. People of all faiths should make a pilgrimage.

How often outside the Vatican or a major cathedral can you get close up and learn about a real saint? Whether Catholic or not, the history, tribute to civil rights for African American and Native Americans, and overall beauty of these wonderful exhibits and grounds are definitely worth the trip. If Catholic, the access to a real saint's crypt, as well as first and second degree relics, are unparalleled. And as mentioned, once Saint Katherine Drexel is moved, the other exhibits will not all be included. Definitely worth the drive. Handicap accessible and good for school age children too. And gift shop lovely.

The shrine is a hidden treasure. The grounds are beautiful and the chapel is so impressive you'll want to spend most of your time there in quiet prayer. It's a shame it will be closing at the end of the year.

An inspirational location for Catholics as well as anyone who appreciates saints and examples of selfless service. The shrine has a very informative video about St Katharine's life plus museum pieces demonstrating the life of a truly remarkable woman and philanthropist. Spend some time in prayer in the shrine or Adoration in the chapel. You won't regret it.
