I learned some interesting things that made the entry fee worthwhile. But, there was a docent giving a tour to another couple in a very very loud voice that made me want to run screaming from the place. I don't understand why he was practically yelling when the couple was standing right next to him. Enduring took a lot of patience and we skipped the portion of the display that he was standing in front of, so that was disappointing. Outside, the grounds are sort of sad... so much is in decay. Seems like this is prime pickings for some really good Eagle Scout projects for local troops. They could clean up some of the monuments and fix broken railings.

It was a very cold day. Did not tour the outside. People were friendly and eager to talk to you and answer any questions we had. Two knowledgeable veterans spoke to us. There is a walk around display showing military tactics, machines and weaponry that was used throughout the US history.

This museum looks large from the outside, however, it is fairly small on the inside. The displays interpret many facets of the history of the military in Pennsylvania. The items on display are interesting.
One thing I noticed is that although they point out women in the military it seems that they are under represented. The admission is fair with discounts for military personnel or those with AAA.
They also have beautiful grounds full of monuments and sculptures. There is a full size tank right outside the front door.
The gift shop is well done. There is a good variety at fair prices for young and old.
The one negative I need to point out…there were two staff members at the entry desk/cashier for the gift shop. They could not find a price on one of the items abs while the woman ringing us up went to go get a price the other created an error on the register and list the whole order.
That set off an argument between these women that was so terribly unprofessional and made us, the customer, very uncomfortable. They were in a serious power struggle which was on display. After a third staff member came down after being called, I got the feeling this isn’t uncommon there. They clearly do not like each other. It was disappointing after a nice visit in the museum.
There is a short video at the beginning of the visit but you can watch it at any time.
FYI… if you are disabled abs have a handicap placard, we found that if you drive past the museum and make the first left, turn in to the first parking lot to your left. There are parking spaces that are far closer to the entrance than the ones in the general parking lot. I have limited mobility abs I would’ve not been able to make it to the entrance from the handicap spaces in the big parking lot.

While in State College PA attending Penn State/Maryland women's basketball game, I decided to look online for other things to see while in State College. Came across the Pennsylvania Military Museum, and what a great find. Doesn't cost much ... great displays/info of history of Pennsylvania/Pennsylvanians military involvement in US wars.

Thank you very much Anita! While we live in the shadow of PSU, some visitors such as yourself do break away from the Collegiate Crowd and discover us.

If your looking for a place with lots of activities to keep your kids occupied and interested, this isn’t it. If you are looking for a place to learn about what Pennsylvanians did in taking up arms to defend this country, this would be a pretty good place to visit. If you are looking for a place where you can sit, or walk, and contemplate the Pennsylvanians that laid down their lives to protect your freedom you can’t pick a better place. Watch the film in the theater before entering the museum. I didn’t take the tour, but wish I had. I overheard one of the guides and he was very informative. There is plenty of parking and lots of places to walk. This is a must see for military history buffs. You won’t be disappointed.

This small but well proportioned museum was an interesting highlight of our trip. Lots of military equipment and local military history.

We had stopped here before and it was closed, so we explored the grounds (which are a bit threadbare, but feature a lot of interesting items). This time we found the museum open and so paid the fee and went in. The exhibits are good and extensive enough to be interesting without being overwhelming. Worth a side trip off of I-80 if you’re in the area.

Even if you are not from Pennsylvania, this museum is a must see. It tells great stories of those who fought in the war.

Lovely peaceful place, large car park with a few military vehicles & guns amongst the cars. Well kept grounds and memorial park. A short walk up to the museum which has an M60 tank outside.
The staff are welcoming and the museum itself is small and well laid out in a circular tour. Its a bit gloomy in places to suggest a wartime atmosphere - pity flash photography is not allowed for us enthusiasts though.
There is a small, well stocked shop on the way out - reasonable prices.
We spent well over an hour there and thoroughly enjoyed the tour and walking around the grounds afterwards.
