We really enjoyed the cave. However, it is NOT a handicap accessible place. We watched many struggle to walk down to the cave and especially back up to the Gift Shop.
The gift shop is large with a great assortment of things from Penn's Cavern Merchandise, as well as little toys, games, beautiful gems stones, geodes and trinkets, and soaps and lotions, etc. A cute little snack bar offered things like hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries, nachos, soft pretzels and sodas. However, when we attended shortly after noon, the kitchen wasn't ready. Fryers weren't turned on, etc. Probably a staffing issue.
The tour boats seat for up to 18 people. The tour guide seemed relatively new, but did a good job with an occasional correction or "update" from the assistant in boat. They worked well together. We enjoyed the info given on the tour.
We just went in March, so the WildLife Park was not open, but we saw buffalo and elk an the way out. There is free parking

Fun family day! Amazing views of the cave. Guide was very knowledgeable.
Not to be missed. Boat ride was fun and seeing bats and wildlife in the lake added to the experience.

I heard a lot about Penns cave and thought if I was in the area I would definitely give it a try. I went with my family after a long weekend camping trip. Definitely book your tickets in advance because we ended up having to wait. Overall it was a great experience. I loved being able to ride through the cave in the boat and our guide was amazing with our storytelling, I was intimidated by the long walk to the cave and the steepness because of bad knees but it really wasn’t that big of a deal. It is cold in the cave so bring a sweatshirt. We enjoyed ice cream on the porch as we waited for a boat ride but eat before you go or pack a lunch. It’s mostly just teasing me to understand that took a long time to serve. There’s a rather large gift shop, so also be prepared for your kids to ask you for every cool thing in it.! Set a budget before you enter.

great experience and very beautiful boat ride through the cave. unfortunately, it was raining, and we didn't get to experience outside the cave, and we were disappointed but overall great adventure.

We have been to many cave but because of boat tour very unique n pleasant experience. Staffs at visitor center n boat were very nice .

Great cave tour! Big caverns, lots to see, super knowledgeable guide. The whole thing is by boat, nice small boats so not crowded at all. We skipped the wildlife tour but really wish we had done it. This is a great attraction for kids. We plan to come back with the grandkids and do it all.

been to alot of caves but never a river boat cave. Very cool. Safari was nice but you could not pet or feed the animals. If you want to pet and feed animals i recomend going to Lake tobias safari . Not too far from the cave. Restaruant had some decent food Has long horn and bison burgersand also regular cheesteaks and fries etc.. The maze was actually pretty difficult. Thought it was just for kids but adults can have fun also. really cool gift store also. Make sure you make reservations at least a few days ahead of time. The get booked really fast

We visited Penn's cave over Labor Day weekend with our grown children and we all thought it was amazing. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. The boat ride was very cool, I did not realize we were going to go out onto the lake so that was a great surprise. We also did the wildlife tour and although I thought at first this was a waste, we all really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it. The gift shop was also reasonably priced and had a large selection of items. We will certainly visit again

Penn's Cave is an excellent adventure that takes 50 minutes in the actual cavern tour. Add to that a visit to the gift shop/restaurant and you are likely to spend a bit more time.
We reserved our tickets ahead of time online. They were waiting for us at the admissions desk inside the gift shop. Once your tour is ready they make an announcement over the loud speakers and you make your way out the side exit door of the gift shop, down a long winding path, and into the cavern entrance.
The tour guide assigns your seats in the flat bottom boat and the tour begins in the darkened cave on the water. Our tour guide was excellent and explained many of the cave's features while using a spotlight and interior mounted lighting.
There is a portion of the trip that exits the caves and proceeds outside and around a small island. We saw a great blue heron up close and an eagle in a distant tree.
This was an excellent experience and well worth the visit.

Trying to decide about time slot booking and what happens with late arrival. Are tours done only every half hour on the hour or are there some leeway on arrival time?
We're coming all the way from Toronto and can only depend on google time estimates but we want to be cautious with the scheduled time.

There are many steps going down to the boarding area and they are steep. They do that handrails and should be used. It may be a good idea to have somebody accompany.

One good way to find out, is go under "Gunther Tours. com" and see if they have a telephone number. That's who we went through on our day trip. They offer this trip. They probably have their phone number.

I'm not sure. Best one who knows the facts would be either calling them or "Gunther Tours.". Call them. We travel with them and they are the ones who took us on the trip. With Gunther, the price was the same per person.
Anyone know if any of the tourist flyers have coupons?

The cave tour is not. There are steep steps to the boats and then the issue of getting in and out of the boats.
Is it easy to get in and out of the boat for small children , elderly or a person with disabilities ( no wheelchair or walkers). Also is there weight limits?

The children have to be with an adult because their will be water around you and those with disabilities, if they walk with a cane, they can get on it. They'll just need assistance safely.
Are there any Hotels with fun pools (sprinklers, slides) in the area?
