Not all of our party was interested in this stop but it was a place to stretch your legs. The 4 out of 6 of us thought it was very interesting and enjoyed the stop. Nice little park and happy to see they are trying to protect this site. Just a quick stop but educational.

Just a short drive to find hidden nature in Coplay. Weather it be a walk, run or biking it is so rejuvenating mid week pick me up or weekend exercise. I hope this place gets the attention it needs to be redone and saved.

This is a wonderful historic place to visit. In the beautiful little town of Coplay Pa. You can go in and tour and see them as they are historically preserved. This is where the first cement was made.

Want to know about the Lehigh Valley and the brick, cement, and concrete days as well as the local railroads then this up your alley. This is being reconditioned and needs alot of work and money to get it to become gorgeous again but seeing it in person one can only imagine what it was like 100- 150 years ago. The Ironton Railroad trail takes right to it. It is a nice place to walk, jog, or bike.

The kilns draw you n because they're so iconic but there are miles of walking paths all around this area. Some are near the river so take care with tots and pups.

It says "cement kilns" but they are truly more than just an oven. It's so inspiring to witness the sheer monumental size of these industrial stacks (once you visit and read the history of the site, you'll realize that's exactly what they are!).

The markers around the site give a somewhat clear idea of what the operations were like. It's amazing to learn how dangerous this work really was - people were actually racing this hot cement around the site in carts. Imagining the laborers physically maintaining this cement and loading coal in as fuel really gives an appreciation for the rich industrial history of the Lehigh Valley.

What's disappointing, though, is that the kilns are fenced off. I understand the need for preservation! However, I wish that this site weren't in a public park, where they have to just be fenced off and forgotten, but instead that they were granted to a nonprofit for tours and educational events. I would have gladly paid a small admission fee to see them if they were treated as a site, with tour guides available, instead of just regarded as ruins with markers. (Maybe someone with connections might read this review and take the idea somewhere?)

Still worth a short visit, just to marvel at it.

There's not much here to visit that you can't see from the road. You really need to be into the making of cement and lime in order to appreciate this site. It is interesting to see the kilns and where Coplay and other nearby cement mining towns made their early livelihoods, but other than "these are really big ovens" there's not much to tell. I feel bad that the kilns are falling into disrepair and I have pride in the local industry, but there's just not that much to tell or to do about the kiln.

These 9 huge brick kilns were built in the 1890's as part of a factory that produced Portland cement. These 90 foot high structures were only operational for 10 years before they became obsolete. They are all that's left of a sprawling cement production plant and are located in the middle of a pleasant park. The kilns are quite dramatic but are fenced off as they are in a state of decay. Various proposals have been advanced to restore these magnificent structures.
