Small non profit run by volunteers
2019年10月
Upon arriving we were greeted by two friendly dogs running around the grounds. It is $10 a person to visit and $4 for a cup of peanuts to feed the animals. You can take a brochure that tells you about how most of the animals came to be at the rescue. The volunteers were friendly. The animals seemed calm and enjoyed their peanuts. They have a range of monkeys, wild cats, goats, llamas and other animals. There were a couple peacocks that walked freely though the grounds as did a giant tortoise named Dozer. While it would be nice to see some of these animals in another environment, this may be the best open for some and a better option that what they came from.

Not a sanctuary
2019年6月
I don’t understand how this is a “sanctuary” for the majority of these animals. The large cats are pretty much all housed in cages with concrete floors and no apparent access to grass or shade. The bobcat (or lynx...wasn’t able to tell) was so hot it was panting. Instead of a shaded, wooded area, the cat was in a cage with a dog house. The lion was in a cage not much bigger than it probably originally was, and clearly wasn’t interested in visitors. It had no way to escape crowds because of the small size of its enclosure. Overall this was a really sad place. Part farm, part “sanctuary,” I didn’t really want to give them my money after seeing the the condition of most of the enclosures. I understand they are non-profit, but to me it would be better to send the animals to a place that can give them an appropriate life.

When searching for information about this place online, I came across this website that details the history of this place. It’s had 15 USDA violations since 2009, and used to be a game park. The family that owns it has also apparently used some shady practices to get animals, including trading some animals for others from various individuals.

After reading this, I think this place should be shut down.

Great little rescue facility!
2018年6月 • 夫妻情侣
Very nice rescue facility that gives the animals a good place for their final years. The staff was very friendly and answered my questions. It is not zoo but you can see some interesting animals. It’s nice to know that someone is willing to take in the ones that no one else wants. Class act! The animals seemed happy in their surroundings. Cages were clean.

A great place to visit!

A fairly small, well maintained, animal rescue for animals that were victims of all kinds of human treatment. Some were confiscated in drug houses.. others were picked up in illegal animal trade.. some others just couldn't continue to be where they were. For whatever reason, I am happy they found their way here. The volunteers and caretakers are absolutely amazing with these animals. Be sure to pick up some animal food when you pay your entry fee.. I think you will enjoy feeding the gibbon, emus, alpacas, goats, fallow deer, etc.

Small but enjoyable animal refuge
2017年9月 • 家庭
We received a Groupon to this place as a gift so we checked it out this weekend. The kids (5 and 2) had a blast. We had explained to them that it was a refuge/shelter, not a zoo, so it wasn't going to be very big or fancy. With our expectations tempered, we were pleasantly surprised and had a fun afternoon.
One to two hours is plenty of time to see every animal there is to see, but the relatively small site has a variety of animals: goats, emus, llamas (or maybe alpacas, I'm not good at telling which is which), white tigers, a cougar, a female lion, a bobcat, an elk, a variety of fun birds, monkeys. The highlight of our visit was the gibbon, Beanie, who seemed to be fascinated by our son and was following him as he walked around her enclosure and showing off her climbing and swinging skills. You can buy a little bucket of animal food and feed everything other than the alligator and the big cats, so that was fun.
The enclosures all seem small and basic, but a brochure explains that the site won't rescue an animal unless it can improve its quality of life. The animals do seem well cared for.
Although we drove up from the DC suburbs just for this and felt it was worth the drive, I do think this is the sort of spot that's better tacked on to a visit elsewhere in the area rather than a destination in and of itself. But if you happen to be passing through Fairfield or if you're in the area for Gettysburg, it's worth a stop.

Cool Rescue center

This is like a SPCA for large animals. Nothing fancy , well cared for animals. The people that work /volunteer there all love what they are doing. Fun walking around listening to the stories about the animals. Two hour are plenty of time for a visit. I would look for other things to do in the area. Note only open Sat/Sun.

Love this Place!

If it weren't two hours from my house, I would visit there all the time. Every animal has a story and it's so obvious that they all are very loved. My favorite part was I actually got to hold an 8 ft long red-tailed boa. It was magnificent. They also sell carrots and peanuts for you to feed to the animals. My 3 year old spend most of the time feeding just one little white deer. He had a blast!

Animal Refuge
2017年7月 • 独自旅游
Located just outside of Gettysburg, Exotic Animal rescue owners 'rescue' animals such from zoo's, private owners, labs, etc.. in an effort to give these animals a little more personalized attention. It is not really a zoo, but rather a habitat where most animals have large fenced in areas to roam rather than a small cage to pace back and forth within. Visitors may view a variety of animals ranging from birds, goats, emu's, and a few of the larger cats within the fenced in areas as well as a few smaller animals. The owners are easy to talk to but do stress the property is for the animals and not to entertain visitors, so one will not see the typical visitor friendly glitz such as at some other places. A visitor can easily walk through the entire reserve within a hour and certainly can be recommended stop especially for smaller children.

Fantastic and Right In Our Backyard
2017年6月 • 夫妻情侣
Have traveled through Fairfield for years and never knew this even existed until I saw a Groupon for it.

So this is small non for profit organizations that gives forever homes to displaced exotic animals. If they can't improve an animals life they will not take the animal. Very cool indeed. Since this is a non for profit organization you will not find an air conditioned gift shop or snack shop. There are bathrooms but again not air conditioned or fancy.

They had a new monkey arrive prior to our visit. The monkey came from a drug bust and they have named the monkey Kilo. So they also have a sense of humor. They have a good mixture of animals.

It was a nice day and we enjoyed our visit and will be back again.

We had a great time walking around a seeing beautiful animals who are able to take it easy.
