A beautiful and compact wall town on a hill. Wonderfully preserved. The pass for all the museums is very good value. It was nothing like as commercialised as San Giminiano, which I visited the day before, and much quieter. Although smaller this was the better experience

Esperienza appagante sotto tutti i punti di vista, borgo ben curato molto pulito ricco di storia, pur essendo domenica non ho trovato confusione eccessiva ma si stava bene apprezzando l'atmosfera dell'uogo.
Ho visitato i luoghi di interesse pagando un biglietto unico del costo di 5 €, tra questi la presunta abitazione di Boccaccio che a mio avviso non mi ha trasmesso nessuna emozione, forse perché non propone nulla che ricrea l'atmosfera che di solito si trova in posti analoghi.
Forse mancano molti elementi che avrebbero caratterizzato il sito.
Molto suggestivi invece gli altri luoghi che mi hanno condotto in un viaggio nel tempo.
Il borgo propone diversi locali dove si può mangiare degli otti mi pasti bevendo un buon vino. Arrivando dalla stazione consiglio di prendere la funicolare dal costo di 1,50 a/r.

Borgo medievale che non conoscevo e ne sono rimasto piacevolmente incantato ,vicino al più famoso sangimignano,non ha nulla da invidiare,diverse manifestazioni per pubblicizzare il borgo,all’interno diversi ristoranti con terrazze panoramiche bellissime,un posto da visitare assolutamente

Posto carino visitabile in un paio d'ore. Bella l'ambientazione, poco sfruttato turisticamente. Interessante tutta la parte storica e bella la veduta della collina Toscana che si può godere dai punti panoramici. Si può raggiungere con la cabinovia ma, come abbiamo fatto noi, anche con una camminata da 15 minuti. Ne vale la pena. Soprattutto bisogna immaginare la vita di un tempo!

The old town is great, take the funiculaire up and walk down. Compared to San Giminano, there are no crowds. 😃

Certaldo Alto è un borgo antico davvero suggestivo con una splendida vista sulla zona collinare. Ristoranti tipici dove si mangia benissimo e un forno dove la colazione ti fa iniziare la giornata nel migliore dei modi. Posizione perfetta per spostarsi a visitare anche San Gimignano, Monteriggioni e perché no Siena, Pisa e Firenze con qualche giorno in più a disposizione

Sabato e la teleferica è chiusa per manutenzione, c'è una navetta che parte dalla piazza ma i biglietti occorre comprarli alla teleferica...... Procediamo allora a piedi su una salita al 33%.fortunatamente nel ristorante "Boccaccio" abbiamo mangiato molto bene.

Non ci sono abbastanza parole per descrivere questo posto. Con la funicolare raggiungi la parte alta della cittadina e ne rimani sbalordito. Bellissimo

Vale la pene se si è in zona visitare Certaldo alto. Cisi arriva su una bella strada panoramica tra le colline toscane. Il borgo è ben tenuto e offre begli scorci per foto.

We are headed to Mercantia this year. Would you be able to answer a couple questions about the festival and the town of Certaldo? When you say it's best to go to the back of the town, do you mean in Certaldo Alto, up the hill? I'm looking to find the best place to park. Also, does the festival take place in the lower area or in both places? Thanks!

We are thinking of staying for our last 5 days in Italy. We have hired a car and I understand we are to park outside the walls. When we sight see around Florence, Pisa etc is this a good base to come home to at night? What time does the funicular stop at night? Thank you in advance Leanne

Probably late answering this- I apologize. The best way to get to Certaldo alto is to take the funicular. You can walk back down as it isn't bad at all. Hope you have a great time!

Yes it is, if you choose the right class. I went to a Jan Edwards workshop thinking it was more advanced than it was. She is actually a terrible instructor and we were disappointed. However, Pietro, Claudia and the team are great, the location is great, the studio space is great, the accommodation is great. So choose your program wisely and you will really love it.

re Certaldo, We see that a recent visitor in March found Monday a hopeless day to visit. Are the restaurants, etc, closed on Mondays in mid-July? That is when we plan to be there.

I was not there on a Monday but many restaurants do close on Mondays in the towns we were in. However, there is usually something open such as a smaller pizza place. The exception seems to be the more tourist towns where most restaurants stay open every day. Certaldo is a good sized town so I would not worry about it.
