Fantastic museum

This is one of the best museums that we have visited.
The exhibits are excellent and the descriptions are very informative.
An extra bonus is the parking area behind the museum.

Excellent overview

Starting at the ground floor you start with pre history, working your way up through time and the upper galleries to more modern times.So worth a visit.
There is free 1 hour on street parking.

Lots of displays and a great walk through Wiltshire history

We had a fabulous visit here this weekend, spending nearly 2 hours in the various rooms. The museum seems to be transitioning from an old style collection, where each cabinet is just a list of artefacts with detailed descriptions to a more interactive and wider ranging display. Some areas we just skimmed through but overall it was a fascinating history of the county and how it fitted in to the wider world. There were some more modern displays that helped a wider age range understand and appreciate the local history such as the ‘smells of wiltshire’ boxes. Definitely worth the entrance fee for a pleasant and unhurried way to improve awareness of our local history and environment.

A Fascinating History Journey

We were advised to visit by a person at Stonehenge.
Not disappointed as this is a well curated museum.
Everything is laid out well and the signage is very clear with each era numbered.
Definitely worth stopping by.

Well worth a visit

Spent an interesting couple of hours, with a lot of local objects of historical significance. Though contents were certainly worth the time, display is crammed in an old building with an awkward flow between rooms to follow. I understand the intention is to move the whole museum to another larger site nearby, where the pieces could be shown to greater advantage in a contemporary display. I do hope they manage this!

A huge range of exhibits. I was expecting a relatively small museum but I was very much mistaken! The variety of artifacts and information here is very impressive and I recommend setting aside a good couple of hours if you want to see and read everything.

This is a fantastic place to visit.

Interesting local history

The volunteer on reception was a lovely, friendly lady. The museum is very interesting and well laid out. It's great to see so much local history and finds. There are plenty of information boards to explain everything.

Thomas Hardy's Wessex at it's best

I visited the excellent Thomas Hardy exhibition - my final visit across the 4 Wessex museums, and was inspired by his relationship with the local landscape. The rest of the museum was stunning - well worth a visit to see the bronze age jewellery, imagine it being made and worn by important chieftans and being buried with them. And then explore the simply beautiful Pewsey Vale. I cannot speak highly enough of the friendly and helpful staff at the museum. Inspirational. Thank you.

A delightful afternoon

We visited with our grandchildren (4 and 2) and were hugely impressed by the interesting displays, friendly staff, comfortable building and imaginative interactives. And the collections are outstanding!
