Katharine House Gallery is a delight for the art connoisseur and novice alike. Housed in a great barn-like building it feels like a roll-call for British artists of the latter half of the twentieth century and beyond. It includes great names such as Sir Terry Frost and Sandra Blow but so many others such as John Wells, James Hull and George Dannatt whom one feels are unduly neglected. The owner has done much to champion the works of Roy Turner Durrant. I was pleased to see a couple of Patrick Heron screenprints on loan from another gallery and was intrigued by another vibrant abstract work which turned out to be by Geoffrey Robinson before, so the owner said, he started turning out Feddon-like still lives. Apart from paintings and prints sculpture and pottery was also on display. The end room houses an impressive library to which bags are not admitted. Prices for artworks, compared with those in London, struck me as competitive.
