The house was really interesting. You only get to see part of it as the family still live in the property and you can only enter on timed tours but this does mean that you get lots of information about the history of the property. The gardens are pretty albeit small for a national trust property. It was raining while we were there so we didn't see it at its best but it was evidently extremely well-kept. The guide and the resident family member allowed me to play on the walnut piano which was a great privilege. The house has a fair bit of interesting history and is certainly worth a quick visit if nothing else.

This was a great NT place to visit. We like the smaller-scale, more domestic places which feel 'lived-in', as a contrast to the massive grand palaces/manors/estates that sometimes seem overwhelming. This certainly fits that bill! There are free guided tours on the hour for around 40-50 mins, that do not need to be prebooked. Ours was very informative, with an enthusiaastic and engaging guide. The gardens and moat etc were very pleasant. Very limited refreshment facilities - go to the Greyhound at Bromham 20 mins away for that! - and the parking is just off-road outside the entrance. As NT members we didn't need to pay, so hard to judge whether this was overall good value for non-members, as it is probably somewhere for a relatively short visit rather than a whole day out.

As members of National Trust, we were looking for a place to visit. Great Chlfield Manor is only open a few days a week. Visits to the manor house are by guided tours that start at set times. Our guide was very good. The gardens are interesting, with a part moat at the southern side. There were some lovely spring flowers.
A family lives in the manor. The owners seemed to very involved with the NT volunteers, giving them ice-creams on a hot day.

This was an interesting place to visit with its mix of medieval buildings and Arts and Crafts garden. It doesn't take a lot of time to wander the gardens but it's worthwhile taking a moment to wander.

The house is only able to be viewed as part of a formal tour. Our tour guide was very good and was always willing to answer questions. The tour took almost an hour which was quite a lot of time but we did have time in each room to look around by ourselves.

A bit of a surprise. The buildings, including church, are wonderful.

Visited in the early afternoon after enjoying The Court Gardens a short distance away (if you’ve only got time for one visit, go there instead).
We left the car in Holt village hall (free parking for visitors to The Court Gardens) and using the map provided there, walked to the manor. It said it should take about 30 minutes, it took us a bit less, through a few fields with nice views over the countryside.
We arrived and were glad we walked, there is no car park - clearly advertised so it is not a surprise - but cars were parked on every verge possible. The approach is exceedingly idyllic, picture postcard country house.
We entered and a family decided not to queue and just went right in! There was not the usual scanner but a chap who just glanced at the cards. We booked onto the tour for half past two, giving us 40 minutes to spend enjoying the gardens and chapel.
There are some fun yew hedges you can walk through, and an approximately 150 metre walk around a small pond, which is surrounded by mature trees and flowers. The path is flat and easy to navigate. There is a tremendous border of colourful flowers and shrubs at the end of a large lawn. And a large terraced area. Benches are scattered around. Overall it is an easily navigable small garden, nice flowers and trees and the water is lovely. The chapel is almost like every single other chapel on a big estate, so no exciting surprises there. 40 minutes up, we arrived at the front of the house for the tour.
The guide was very enthusiastic, and knowledgable, and attempted to insert humour at certain parts of the tour, the issue we had, as did others was the length of it. We started at half 2 and ended up leaving the tour at 20 past 3 having seen three rooms. It seemed to go on for a rather long time, without exciting us or teaching us anything of real substance about the place. I’m sure each tour guide does it their own way, and I certainly don’t intend to be rude in this review, it was just too long.
We exited into the sunshine, used the loos and left. There is a cafe which we didn’t visit.
Overall, an interesting property and we are glad we were able to get in given it’s open for a limited time each year. But it also didn’t really seem worth it. The good thing is, they are not precious about the furniture so you can find seating in each room so you’re not standing for the whole time, and like some other reviews have said, you can’t take pictures inside the house.

Really interesting and engaging house tour guide. Only a few rooms are available to view as the house is still lived in but the guide explains how the rest of the property is used. Gardens are small but beautiful, planting perfectly matched the season. Best to arrive in time for a tour, we didn’t so ended up sitting around for a while waiting for it to start. Tea shop only does drinks and biscuits, it’s not NT apparently and looked a bit grim so probably best to take your own drink.

This is a very quirky manor house.
There are three listening holes in the great hall.
There is a a very tight spiral staircase that connects to a secret passage crosses the house.

We visited here on a Sunday so we could do the guided tour of the house as well as see the gardens. I'd recommend arriving early as parking is all on road as very limited. The property is tenanted and as such only open for a limited amount of days each year.
Our guide was excellent and had a huge amount of knowledge both about the property and the wider historical events during the country in the relevant periods. The property was built as a fortified manor house towards the end of the Wars of the Roses and has survived largely intact. The builder seemed to be a quite a despicable man who acquired over 50 properties in northern Wiltshire by various means.
We couldn't take photos inside the property but the gardens, now in their arts and Crafts persona were very photogenic and there was plenty of nice walks.
Not a huge property but we spent a couple of hours there and the guided tour really bought it to life.

First trip here with friends so not completely sure what to expect. Arrived just after opening and were told house tour was due to start at 11.

Met outside front door with a few others by a gentlemen dressed in medieval clothes. (Arnold). He played the role of the Manor owner in 1400's superbly.

He guided us all around with huge enthusiasm and wit. There was even a lady playing guitar in the Hall.

Grounds, and the Moats are beautiful. Had picnic on grass outside by our cars. Don't think they are allowed in grounds. Small honesty box for tea/coffee/biscuits and somewhere to sit. Toilets more than adequate.

Our visit was disappointing. The guides explanation jumped from one topic and time period to another, in no particular order. The tour lacked structure. Confusion reigned. The number of rooms which you see is extremely limited considering the size of the place. Facilities were poor. Honesty box for make-it-yourself tea and coffee. No cake or snacks were on offer. The church is a lovely building with a few points of interest . The gardens were also well kept and pretty.
