*Beware - Misleading car park situation. Fine received!

We visited for Halloween to take our children on the ghost train. Cost £93.00. I planned ahead as we were travelling a distance to get there and the website advises you that you can park in main car park and tickets can be purchased via ring and go. It does state that the car park is operated by ANPR but that means nothing to me. I booked my parking prior to arriving using the ring and go app and on arrival pulled into the car park which was situated outside the attraction. Guess what, there is more than 1 car park though and this is also referred to as the main car park. I’ve now received a fine for £60/£100 from Saba. I contacted SVR who advised there was nothing they could do as they didn’t own that car park. They said there is a sign pointing to their car park. I must have missed this as it was dark and was trying to get my kids safely into the attraction. I feel that SVR need to make their website clearer as to what car park belongs to them to avoid any confusion. Lots of other reviews re parking fines so I don’t appear to be an isolated case.

A Day on the Severn Valley Railway

We had a lovely day on a steam train from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster and back. On the way back we visited the Engine House at Highley which was amazing. I liked the Engine House Trail, a worksheet which gave you questions about the engines to complete. It helped you to look for details of the trains. There was a really good timeline of the history of the UK railways and the Severn Valley Railway. It was a lovely day out and really took me back to my childhood when we travelled on steam trains.

Good trains, lousy lunch.

Our second time here and we loved it! The trains, the steam, the teak coaches…lots of photos and happy memories. We will be back! BUT the food at Highley needs a major overhaul! Very disappointing, poor quality and poor menu. Please SVR we need a National Trust style cafe with good food- then you’ll get more non-train locals enjoying your food and you’ll make more money!! I wanted a good lunch and was disappointed.

Halloween train

Halloween train i have two kids aged 8 and 15 it was fantastic for both as a family eith grandparents etc we had the best time brilliantly organised actors were fantastic and Scarey were needed. My only criticism is no food being cooked in the cafe I u detest and how busy they can be but even just nuggets snd chips etc food in a basket there missing portentously revenue as I saw a lit if people going into the chip shop opposite

Grandad, dad and boys enjoyed an excellent day on the railway at the commencement of the half-term week. Living up north, we took advantage of the mid-morning departure from Bridgnorth, which many other passengers had opted for (management take note!). The train was the beautiful LNER teak set and we took the opportunity to upgrade when on the train to first class which at £12 for the four of us seemed a good deal. We alighted at Bewdley and took advantage of the excellent cafe off platform 1 for lunch then carried on to Kidderminster for a visit to the lovely Railway Museum adjacent to the station (coffee and cake here was very good). Back on another train to Highley and the Engine House, a walk down to the river and the Ship Inn, and then the last train back to Bridgnorth, again comprised of the beautiful teak stock headed by the trusty little pannier tank arriving just a couple of minutes late. What's not to like about such an interesting day out through scenery in gorgeous autumn colours with friendly and helpful staff? Great job, SVR, we love ya!

Day out with old friends

Lovely day riding on the steam trains. The only thing I’d say is the freedom ticket doesn’t really give you the freedom to get on and off trains as much as you’d want to because of the frequency of the trains. We rode from Bridgenorth to Bewdley then on.The return got off at Highley. We barely had time for lunch at Bewdley before having to head back.

I would recommend taking a picnic to eat on the train so you have time to properly explore the area when you alight from the train

A good day , a trip on the train witha great bacon bap and Tea

It has been a while since I last visited the SVR This trip was partially to visit the 0 gauge model railway show at Highley and also to re aquaint myself with the SVR. The plusses all of the volunteers/staff were incredibly friendly courteous and helpful Kiderminster staion looked great as did all of teh other stations , reminding me of how I imagined stations from my childhood many many years ago. I had a tea and bacon bap in the café at Kidderminster both excellent and I thought decent value for money. Again the staff could not have been more helpful or pleasant The cafe was clena and well laid out . The train was steam hauled at although very full the staff were helpful and informative, pleasant and polite, The tea from the on train buffet, a cardboard PG tips with powdered milk was sadly fairly aweful ( why not a Tea bag and a little churn of milk or even fresh milk on the counter in a insulated jug as they have had Bridgenorth )?.Highley and the show although not a masssif show again staff were friendly show was good value as it was included in the train ticket cost . The coffee in the cafe was very good and again the staff very friendly and helpful The Cafe was well laid out the food presentation very good and the prices I thought very reasonable. The hot main courses appeared to be pies and pasties so I opted for a cheese salad and chips. here was my biggest grouse, the chips looked great and there was a good portion sadly not quite cooked in the middle. The cheese salad well presented but lacking in cheese and may be should have been described as a lettce salad as the bowl was well fille d with lettuce, there was a decent enough portion of onion and cucumber but the cheese was sparse , All was fresh tho and tasty . I di not complain there an d then as they were very busy. I had a good ride up to Bridgenorth again steam hauled and back to Kiddermminster A very enjoyable day and I would not be put off going back by the salad nor to the Highley Engine House Cafe All in all a great day. Loads of interetsing locos dottted around the railway especially some visiting /stored diesels so something for every one Thank you SVR

Never had a bad day

Have been many times over the years and have never had a bad day. Sometimes spend half the day at the Engine House, watching the trains come and go - food and drink available from the cafe.
Always enjoy the galas, especially the Diesel ones - the spring one this year was amazing.

Thank you to the staff "behind the scenes", such as admin, who are extreemly helpful if you have any problems: A little kindness goes a long way these days, thanks

Had a wonderful day, the trains are so beautiful, especially the steam engines! Had Freedom of the Line tickets and they are such good value, we even got free return tickets which makes it even better, can't wait to come again.
