Housed in a magnificent building which opened in 1901; this is a free Council run museum. The highlight is the Wrigley Collection; an assemblage of more than two hundred oil paintings, watercolours, prints and ceramics, which includes works by J. M. W. Turner, John Constable, Edwin Landseer, and George Clausen. There is a feature on modern sculpture; not for everyone but if you are interested then you will probably like this.

A pleasant building. We visited between exhibitions when the sculpture floor was closed - so did not see things at their best. Some good art - but marred by temporary signage, which was scruffy. Would have preferred more words around exhibits in the museum section.

They have some good paintings upstairs upstairs and some very interesting local history downstairs. Close to the railway/tram station and with a cafe and an excellent
shop with a good selection of cards
Toilet provision for female visitors is poor. They are obliged to share with men.

This is a delightful museum and art gallery run by enthusiastic people who obviously love it.
It is not a big museum/art gallery and only took us about an hour to see the exhibits but it was well worth the trip.
The lowest level was a history/art project based on one of the local streets. It was quite inspiring in the creative way it described the buildings in the street and how it illustrated people’s experiences and memories of the street.
The middle floor had a contemporary exhibition about food and our relation with it. We particularly liked the supersized art work and the exhibit about Bury’s claim to food-fame (simnel cakes and black pudding).
The top floor housed an exhibition of the local photographic society (obviously some very talented people) and a more conventional art gallery with a mix of old and modern works. We particularly enjoyed the video showing how a photographer captured a portrait based on classical portraiture.
Throughout the building there were odd little displays related to the town and the building itself was impressive.
I can’t miss the cafe out of this review. The food was good but served with care and attention: additional garnishes on the side salad elevated a fairly basic sandwich to memorable.

Myself and my partner were in Bury for a couple of days July 2019 and wanted to come see the exhibition of Victoria Wood. We arrived on a very rainy day and managed to find this nice small art gallery entering into the gift shop we picked up a leaflet and was directed downstairs. We dressed in some costumes and a helpful lady a member of staff took our photo for us. We had a look at the exhibition and watched some of her routine that was projected onto the wall. There was some interesting things to look at including things from one of my favourite shows and the show I remember most of Victoria wood, ‘dinner ladies’. It was a nice visit just so sad she passed away so young.
Before we left we took a quick look around the art gallery some interesting pieces. The place also houses a coffee shop but this wasn’t open.

Visit to bury market for the day and had a couple of spare hours so popped in here. Some interesting exhibits and spent a good hour looking at the painting collection. My personal favourite a constable landscape.

I popped into Tina’s cafe for a coffee and cake to discover a new exhibition, which was extremely interesting and thought provoking. The guide explained the exhibition and gave a good insight into the artist. Well worth a visit you never know what you will find in this museum.

I loved the paintings in this museum, dating from 17th century to contemporary, including a John Constable, but wasn't quite so keen on the sculptures showing at the time.

Came to see the Victoria Wood exhibition.
Wasn’t disappointed at all... love Victoria’s work. Shame it’s finishing in September.
The museum is easy to get to and parking was a doddle.
Lovely place.
Would defo go again.
