We visited Polmartin following a quick internet search when vacationing in the forestry retreat nearby. Me and my two grown up children were looking to go for a hack/trek, as we often do when away together. I made the booking in person (they really were very close to our location) on the off-chance. Fortunately, they'd had a last minute cancellation that we slotted into less than an hour later.
The owner (Jane) was our instructor, and she scrutinized our responses to the obligatory / standard riders forms & waivers while we got our kit on. After we had been "recalibrated" as to our riding competency we went off into the barn to mount up and show Jane what we could do - basic walking, trotting and the like. No surprises there (I'm a little rusty ;-)) but we left the barn in good order and headed out on a trek around the property.
I was on Magic, daughter had Celeste, and son was on Socrates. We had a lovely time, and chatted all the way around with Jane telling showing us all manner of things around the property. There were some lovely views with many photo opportunities too. Upon our return to the stables we headed to the paddock for our daughter to do some more trotting.
We had a great time at Polmartin with Jane and can thoroughly recommend the venue for safe instruction with an overt commitment to animal welfare. We are occasional riders at best, however, Polmartin is the type of place that makes you want to ride much more often. Jane is a no nonsense instructor and we were very well treated by all the staff we came into contact with. Thank you for a great experience.

Firstly I’d like to say how brilliant all the staff were during our session at looking after us all and what a lovely pleasant ride we had on the amazing ponies/ horses.
Unfortunately one thing letting down the experience was the way Jane (the owner) spoke to us. If I hadn’t already have paid I would have walked out.
She walked into the stable while we were waiting for our session with another horse shouting to her staff “get me some help here now! It’s not much to ask is it”
She then questioned why my 9 year old daughter was wearing the safety chest plate stating “are you planning to fall off?”.
(my daughter rides weekly at our local riding school and this is how she feels comfortable and safe).
She then asked us all how confident we were at riding, my daughter excitedly said “very” I said “she’s been riding weekly for about 8 months to which Jane replied “well Ive been riding for 63 years and I’m sick of kids this summer” while placing her hands on my daughter’s shoulders. I was in total disbelief at how she was talking to us and all of her staff.
Thankfully we went on a lovely ride and didn’t have to see her again until the end. When we got back my 7 year old son took his hat off and put it on the table it accidentally fell off onto the floor she then told him off and started talking about how expensive they were. I quickly interjected and said it was a total accident.
I fully understand the need to gage the riding ability of people coming to the sessions and support robust constructive feedback, however in this instance the interaction was purely rude with the owner revelling in her own self importance and thriving on the opportunity to belittle others. We would not be booking again.

I've just had the most fantastic week riding at Polmartin Riding School. It's been a lifelong dream of mine to know how to ride a horse, and, while I started as a beginner, I now feel much more confident and happy in the saddle . Jane, Hugo and Joanne are great instructors and the horses are so well looked after. Special thanks to Bracken and Socrates for being so kind and patient!

This was our first ever ride on a horse. We had an excellent afternoon at the riding school. The staff were friendly, helpful & knowledgeable. They ensured we were comfortable on the horses before we ventured out. Domino & Bracken 🐴 took good care of us 😊. Well worth a visit.

This is an amazing experience with the riding school met Jane and her team who were so friendly and professional. I went on an hour trek through the most breath taking views of Cornwall . Had some informal training and help before going on the trek . Certainly will be returning next year . We are on holiday from Norfolk . Thanks again to Jane and your wonderful team

This riding school is excellent!
My daughters love riding here and have learned so much. The instructors are excellent, the horses are well cared for and have lovely temperaments.

This is a great stables! When I enquired about an informal ride with my children, the responses were prompt, polite and clear. When we arrived, we were warmly welcomed, the horses were ready and we had enough time to get the equipment correctly fitted. We also had a test ride in the indoor area, meaning Jane was able to assess our riding skills (or lack of them!). Eric gave some tips to help ride the horses with confidence, and even before we left I was more comfortable than with other hacking rides. The ride itself was calm, relaxed, with my children being given tips on how to be more confident in their riding. The route was spectacular and the evident pride and love of what she does rolled off Jane in waves. I would thoroughly recommend Polmartin Riding, with the emphasis on safety and enjoyment. The horses are clearly extremely well cared for by people passionate about what they do. I will be back as soon as I can, thank you Jane and Eric!

My daughter and I have just returned from 3 days at Polmartin. We stayed on site in one of the shepherd's huts whilst my daughter had 4 hours of riding out and tuition with Jane spread over the 3 days. Jane's direction and support was incredible. My daughter's riding noticeably improved over the course of each session. She was riding the highest quality horses and her confidence has increased significantly in being trusted by Jane and thought capable of riding out on both Socrates and Magic. This positive attitude built at Polmartin has translated into her approach in her usual lesson at home and was commented on positively today by two instructors independently at the yard.
The shepherd's hut was clean, warm, comfortable and very well equipped with the perfect view of grazing horses from its windows.
It was a round trip of 540 miles for us and well worth every one of them.

A fabulous experience for our Granchildren age 5 and 10.
Lots of fun in the indoor school on beautiful ponies.
