An almost hidden treasure full of treasures. Exceptional small beautifully curated collection. A place not to be missed.

Really good and so interesting. It is definitely worth a visit on a rainy day. Lots to see and learn about the area and we loved the VR

The St Agnes museum is located just south of the village.
It is a little tricky to visit via public transport but we took the U1A bus towards Newquay from Truro station, a journey of around 40 minutes. The bus drops you almost outside the museum.
The museum is quite modern inside with an interesting range of local artefacts. It is housed over two floors.
The local industries were copper, tin and arsenic mining, fishing and agriculture.
There was an interesting video of the now defunct (since the Beeching cuts in 1963) railway line to Perranporth which ran through St Agnes.
I liked the virtual reality view of St Agnes harbour in the early 20th century having never used such technology before !
I also enjoyed the information about two famous locals. John Passmore Edwards, a 19th century journalist and philanthropist as well as John Opie, an 18th century portrait painter.
Admission is free and the staff on duty were most helpful and informative.
The museum is open daily.

Thank you for your positive review. I am glad that despite the difficulty of getting to St Agnes on public transport, that you enjoyed the museum once you got here.
It's also good to hear that our volunteer stewards were helpful.
We try and change at least on display cabinet each season, to keep things interesting and allow items in storage to get an airing and tell a new story of our history, so do come again another season.
Best wishes and happy travels.
Curator.

The best thing about the St Agnes museum was the two delightful and enthusiastic volunteers who drive all the way over from Helston to manage the place. Chatting to them was our highlight! The museum made a good wet weather 45 minutes and is filled with local items of moderate interest. I had hoped to see more about tin mining in the area. Not many of the exhibits were that interesting unless you like crockery produced by local Methodist churches and similar items. Worth a visit if you are at a loose end, but you haven't missed much if you don't go.

Thank you for taking time to review your visit to our museum.
I am really glad our stewards that day were a positive part of your experience - your lovely feedback has been shared with them.
It is a little disappointing to hear that our exhibits were not of great interest to you, we try to maximise our use of space and vary the displays each season to reach everyone's interests in some way. In seasons past we have had more about mining on display and your review has prompted me to re-display more artefacts and information on our local mining heritage next season.
So if you're in the area next year and are at a loose end, please do visit us again.

This is an fascinating museum all about the village and those that form the parish. It has natural specimens, a WWII display, mining, genealogy corner and resources, surfing exhibits, local pottery and artists, a virtual reality experience which takes you back 100 years, and a model railway and video of the last train. It is packed full of interesting exhibits and is run on a completely volunteer basis. The museum has won several rewards. If you are in or around the village or is well worth a visit. It also stocks lots of local interest books and souvenirs.

Thank you auntiepandah for your detailed review - a great advert for the museum!
And of course, on top of all that, it is completely free entry and free to enjoy the Virtual Reality experience.
Also, the museum is child friendly with a few activities including a sort of treasure hunt to entertain young people while parents browse the displays.

What a great little museum! Was expecting to be underwhelmed but really enjoyed our visit. I can't believe it is free - definitely worth a donation for the curators to keep up the good work.

Thank you for your lovely comments.
Everyone working at St Agnes Museum is a volunteer and we love what we do. It makes it even better when our work is appreciated like this.
Ha Ha! It is free for precisely that reason - so that people who suspect they'll be underwhelmed, will pop in anyway - nothing to lose.
And of course donations are what keep us going, so thank you again.
Visit us again another time as we regularly change our displays.

What an amazing place! We braved the rain just for this museum and we were not disappointed. So much history, information, even a virtual reality headset! Genuinely a brilliant find and I’m so glad we went. The member of staff there was so welcoming and informative and he was so lovely. Can’t believe it’s free, definitely worth so much more and was more than happy to give a donation and make a purchase in the gift shop to support such an incredible place. Thank you St Agnes Museum!

Thank you for your generous comments.
We are so glad you enjoyed your visit and were entertained by our relatively new Virtual Reality experience of sitting on the harbour over 100 years ago.
Not sure which member of staff was on that day - but they are ALL lovely so it could have been any, so I'll pass your message to them all.
I hope your enthusiasm encourages more people to visit us this season.

Thank you for your review Lucy. We are please you enjoyed the Virtual Reality experience of the harbour.
A harbour last stood in St Agnes in 1916 so it is wonderful to be able to let people experience what it was like.

This is a well-presented museum covering local history, both of the people and the industry. Surprised to find it open every day and free, we were impressed and emerged edified.
Well done, volunteers.

Thank you for your supporting message.
We aim to keep the museum free to ensure access for all. We are lucky to have enough volunteers who are enthusiastic about where they live, to be able to staff the museum 7 days a week from April 1st to October 31st.
We change a couple of the display sections every season - so if you visit the area again, do come in to see what's new.

My husband and I are both looking forward to visiting the museum on Monday 29th April 2019. We are also hopefully visiting a friend that I haven't seen for over 59 years. As a child I we moved to Cameron Estate near to St Agnes Beacon in early 1950. We're staying in Truro so will be able to do a lot of catching up. Can not wait.! Pat B
