This was really interesting, but taking photos of it was impossible due to the reflections on the glass it is encased in.

This particular coach was used as a mail and passenger coach on the run from Deniliquin to Wilcannia from 1886-1901.Built locally in 1886 by Henry Proctor. An interesting fact about this coach is that it made a brief appearance in the 1975 film Mad Dog Morgan.
Located on the corner of Lachlan Street and Moppett Street ...it is difficult to photograph because of the glass... however it's worth stopping to read about and have a look. The charming part of Hay is that walking through the town is like returning to a by-gone age.

When you imagine the distances we travel today in our cars you can appreciate the time it took for these coaches to travel across the countryside.
The displays is located next to the Newsagency and is hard to photograph it is behind glass. Well worth a quick visit.

As both my great, great & great grandfathers were Cobb & Co Coach Drivers and my grandfather was born at Wanganella , just south of Hay at the Cobb & Co depot , I have a bit of a fascination in the history of the service. Maybe one of my ancestors drove this actual coach ? The Sunbeam was built in Hay in 1886 and operated the Deniliquin to Wilcannia run of 300 miles thru Hay up to 1901 as both a passenger & mail service. The coach was restored in 1972 and placed in the pavilion in 1989 and in its day carried between 11 -17 passengers! A great bit of Australian history saved and to this day sitting on the Cobb Highway and yours to look & admire ! Great work Hay !!
