The location was directly in front of the old building ( the station that pre-dated this one was a tin shed), with a quick and handy access to Lachlan Street...which is the Main Street in Hay. The architect was W.H. McNiven, builders were W. G. Butterworth & Co and it was built in 1917. The cost of this beautifully located fire station at the time was £559.
Let's add an ironic twist here though... it was not until 1938 that an electric fire alarm was installed in the station. Times were different once!
My first thoughts for this station were, "How quaint and very dinky di". It's small but holds a place along a street filled with beautiful architecture.

The old fire station was erected in 1917 and great that Hay has retained this small piece of their history in Lachlan Street. it is one of a number of historic and interesting buildings in town.
