We went for a day hike and picnic on a crisp fall day. Park was busy, but we were able to park in the lot above the main lot and walk down. We did the Ferncliff Loop trail that goes along the banks of the river. It starts in a cool forest and has some uphill hiking before you get to the river, so you get your heart rate up. Visiting in the fall in peak color was incredible. We took so many photos. They also have a very nice visitor center that is right along the river and has beautiful views from big windows. You can picnic along the river. There are some tables or you can sit on a bench and enjoy the light, the colors, and the chill in the air.

Stopped by to see the winter views. We parked at the visitors center to walk to the overlooks. The overlooks and sidewalks were clear and salted. Worth the stop any time of year but especially now for a winter view if you have the time. Also check out Cucumber Falls just down the road.

Campground site was spacious, gap trail was fun , some trails in campground were not marked so well. The river is so clear and i saw many fish

This was a wonderful place to stop and see beautiful waterfalls up close. The waterfalls were just off the spacious parking lot. There was a nice paved path to the visitor center. The basement of the visitor center had some very interesting exhibits. The bathrooms were nice and clean. The plants all around the grounds were beautiful. The shops and restaurants across from the visitor center looked interesting but we didn't have time to go in them.

Research the trails in the park before arrival and be ready to accept the opportunities that the weather will allow. The visitor center and Ohiopyle Falls are directly across the street from the businesses of the small town. On a sunny afternoon in May, we found the Youghiogheny River flowing rapidly providing great views at the falls. The visitor center has a nice display on the lower floor. Parking is limited at trail heads which requires good planning and flexibility. Ohiopyle State Park is a worthwhile stop on a trip to southwestern Pennsylvania.
While in the area, we found the tour of the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home, Fallingwater, to be extremely interesting. We also enjoyed a stop at King's Covered Bridge on county road 653.

Ohiopyle was a hood destination for some day hiking. We saw waterfalls, checked out the visitor center for some history and maps, hiked the Baughman Trail (very steep) to the Baughman Rock (excellent view) and walked around the river on both sides. It was also fascinating to check out the old train tracks and the bridge. During our visit there was some kind of event and loud live music, which we fortunately couldn't hear on the trails.
Would definitely recommend Ohiopyle for anyone who wants to do longer day hikes or maybe even spend a night – otherwise I don't think it's a great destination for camping. Visiting during the leaves changing was an added bonus.

We really enjoyed this park! The raging water and falls were amazing. We really enjoyed taking some time to enjoy the rapids and would return if in the area.

We have just learned about this amazing area. Beautiful area with so much to offer people of all ages. We initially were coming for the "Falling Water " tour by FLW. To our surprise there are two homes to tour. Kentuck Knob which was amazing too.
The hiking and terrain of the area is really a sight to see. Waterfalls abound this area and being that we were here only for a few days it was overwhelming. Could have stayed a week and still not seen it all.
We rented a beautiful lodge and enjoyed the home after our daily activities.
Some trails were not walkable as flood flash warnings but the rivers and streams were overflowing and we were happy to witness the powerful flows.
What a gem of a place. We saw a different river when we first arrived as the rapids and rainfall were spectaculor. Scary actually in some ways as did not want to get to close. Rapids were higher than 5 I believe.

This park is beautiful. We brought our dog and went on a short hike. The gift shop was open. We enjoyed a delightful lunch and bought cute sweatshirts. They also have clean restrooms. Highly recommend!

We attempted to go to Ohiopyle State Park on the last weekend in August and it was so crowded, we could not find a place to park. ALL the parking lots were full and overflowing with vehicles parked for miles along both sides of the road. Elbow to elbow crowds was not what I had i mind when visiting the park so we did not stop.

Now that I have camping reservations I see that our site 45 is a shared site. I'm a little worried about this. Will we have our own fire pit? Also we want to kayak - not whitewater, are there places in the area to do so?

You could drive to Connellsville where there's a park under the rt 119 bridge and waters calm as you won't be in the mountains and put a kayak in there in the lower Yough river

What kind of tent camping is there in Ohiopyle? Are there any remote spots? Possible to camp near the river or swimmable water?? Thanks!

We camped in the state park camp ground and it was awful! The regular tent sites are right on top of each other. We got a "walk up" site that is a little more private. But you have to haul your stuff up a steep trail to your site. People were partying, cussing, and blaring music until 12:30 and no one stopped them. Worst camping trip we've ever done. Maybe if you go during the week it would be better and less crowded.

The portion of ohiopyle state in and around the town of ohiopyle is dog friendly
Be advised it’s not uncommon to cross the paths of cats, pheasants and ducks.
The trail to cucumber falls is dog friendly.
Another option is to drive up the street to cucumber falls and avoid the extended trail to see cucumber falls directly.
At cucumber falls itself is very dog friendly

Try one of these marinas; they are just across the Route 40 bridge over Yough Lake. Yough Lake Marina @ 814-395-3423 or Lakeside Marina @ 877-211-8919. They are both about 25 minutes from Ohiopyle. Deep Creek Lake is a little further, it is a 55 minute drive from Ohiopyle. There are several marinas there that rent boats. Word of caution; both lakes get very busy on the weekends so a weekday rental will be far more relaxing. Also, book in advance at either.

My family and I are going there in a couple weeks to raft. Should we pack a lunch or are there places close by to eat? Someone mentioned in a review how there are cute shops in town. Also, why is the easiest way to get there from central PA? I know it's only an hour and a half away but not really sure where to go once we are in the general area.

There are many small ahops and restaurants nearby. The rafting is phenomenal. Trwat is yourself and don't pack a lunch.

Cucumber Falls the Natural water slide also the main Falls area on the Yough river Kentuc Knob also is nice. The whole area is very scenic.

The only area I have seen tubing is the Middle Yough. Rapids are classified as Class I & II. It runs between Confluence and Ohiopyle.
