We've walked across the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City and the Roebling Bridge in Cincinnati so we were curious about other Roebling works. As we were passing through Pittsburgh on a recent roadtrip out East, we decided to stop to see and walk across the Roebling-designed Smithfield Street Bridge crossing the Monongahela River. While the Bridge itself may not be part of the Heritage Trail, the Trail does go right by the Bridge on both sides of the River. So I'm putting in a plug here for the Bridge here as we thoroughly enjoyed walking across the Bridge just before sunset on a warm evening. It is an interesting truss bridge of a lenticular (double-convex lens) design. With beautiful ironwork and interesting decorative gargoyle-ish heads, it's worth a look! We parked our car at Station Square for a fee.

Scenic bike ride, mostly paved! There are parts that aren't marked well, but you should be able to figure it out. There were also a couple times when I had to pick up0 our bikes and take them up the stairs onto the bridge, so just map your route out properly if you are not able to do that. Other than that, if you like biking, this is for you!
Note: Pittsburgh is a hilly city, so depending on where you park your car, be ready for that.

A must visit.
Thank you, Pittsburgh for creating this exceptional place.
Stumbled upon the trail when crossing the Fort Duquesne Bridge.
There is a trail on the other side but this trail blew me away.
Lots of attractions along the way and easily maneuvered by walking or bicycle.
Great place to take many pictures.

This is a very nice trail along the river that goes across very interesting places like Washington landing and the Old Heinz factory . Beautiful views as well and the trail is well marked and paved. You can go also to the Poin from here

Parking at Washington’s Landing and riding bikes to the Roberto Clemente bridge is a perfect way to enjoy town and in this case, Picklesburgh, without the hassle of traffic and parking. Also, the Three Rivers Heritage Trail is the perfect vantage point to see the our beautiful city and get a little exercise. I’m a very casual bicycler and this 4-5 round trip trail is perfect for me. The only gripe I have about this trail would be, the closer you get to PNC park, the more foot and bicycle traffic you come across, and the river is right there without any barricades and it makes me so nervous with little kids on bikes! Yikes! I think the city should put in metal posts every three or four feet, at least! Oh yes, one last complaint and that would be goose poop everywhere-that’s all.

Esta trilha vai pela beira do rio e mostra Pittsburgh sob a perspectiva do rio e de algumas de suas mais belas pontes. Muito bom de fazer para se ter uma noção da importância destas pontes para conectar a cidade com toda a malha viária ao redor.

My wife and I were in Pittsburgh for the weekend for a Penguin's game. We decided to see the sights along the Heritage River Trail. We strolled along both sides of the river along the trail. The North side was very nice. The trail passes by PNC park, Heinz Field, and the Casino. A very nice war memorial, and several other statues and memorials are also along the route. A great view of the Pittsburgh skyline and the park at the confluence of the two rivers. The trail is wide, and well looked after. Plenty of room for all, although the trail was not busy when we were on it. It was a rainy, overcast day in November. A nice way to showcase the city.

Great for renting bikes, going on a run or just strolling with friends/family. Great views on the river and city. Every year they have a 10 day Three Rivers Arts Festival on June 1-10th with hundreds of vendors, 5-6 stages for live music and arts/crafts for the kids, If you can schedule it around that time it would be ideal. Best of both worlds

Toda “cidade-banhada-por-um-rio” que se preze, deve ter um calçadão margeando a orla, não é mesmo?
E Pittsburgh dá um show nesse quesito!

Very picturesque for a walk, run or bike.
I try to spend a little time here each year just to stroll and watch the river traffic go by. I find it very relaxing compared to the busy streets all around it. The traffic is slower, the people passing you by are much nicer and there can be allot to see. The city has done a nice job adding flowers in spots and keeping it clean.
Make it a fun day and rent a bike for a pleasant ride.

Hi,
We are coming to Pittsburgh for a family vacation and this includes grandparents and grand children ages 2-17. Would the Heritage Trail be suitable for such a range in ages? And where should we park to begin tour?

I think so. If you asking about the trail between PNC Park and the Casino, along the river, it's wide open with great views and is pretty flat. You may have to be concerned about a youngster near the river - I don't remember a guard rail - but there is plenty of room away from the river. Also there are quite a few steps to get down to the river from the upper sidewalk/road level - that could be a problem for grandparents. The entrance we took was out beyond the out field of the baseball stadium o 6th St. We parked at the Springhill Suites, on the other side of the baseball stadium about a block and 1/2 away. We were staying there and it cost $21/day if I remember correctly. If there is no baseball game going on you may have inexpensive (and closer) choices on the street. Also weekends my be less crowded. We needed a place to park for a couple of days. It's a really nice walk across the 6th St bridge to/from downtown Pittsburgh too - but I don't know how lively the grandparents are.

Hi all!
I am planning on coming down this weekend for a bit of biking along the Heritage Trail. I'm wondering where is the best/safest place to park the car for the day?
Thanks!

Hi, is it possible to access the trail from 10th Street & Duquesne Boulevard or just from the 11th Street? We would like to jog a bit from our hotel downtown when we stay there over the weekend.
thanks!
