Overrated and depressing. Homeless everywhere, drug addicts and business workers trying to ignore them. Dirty and small as well.

Still not getting better since our last visit. Pittsburgh has a homeless problem. This is evident in the whole downtown area we walked as well as Market Square. Downtown Pittsburgh used to be a wonderful place, unfortunately it currently is dirty, lots of vacant buildings and store fronts, it smells like urine, and we had a feeling of not being safe. Lots of homeless everywhere that seem unstable, groups of loud and unruly teenagers, and even witnessed a drug dealer handoff happen. We did not see any police walking around the hour we were there before the show at the theatre, nor after the show walking to our car, not even one! My wife said she would not go back Downtown until they figured things out with the homeless and crime issues, we heard about on the news later that night.

Lots of resaurants and bars to choose from. There is usually something of interest going on , while I was there last there was the Christmas Market to enjoy. I recommend "Barcadia" for a good place to enjoy a drink and have some fun. There is evidence of homelessness, but nothing I found of worry, you can still bring the family, but just be aware. I would not hesitate to recommend the area for a good time while in Pittsburgh!

It was on my list as it is hailed as attraction. When we arrive Friday evening it was littered with alcoholics and drug addicts. Nothing to do or see. NOT EVEN a single bench to sit on. Saturday there were some musician playing, hardly anyone stayed to listed.....we couldn't grasp it. There is nothing there but a couple tables selling tourist trap crap. Skip it....

Not super impressed with Market Square. Kind of like a mini craft vendor show. Birds swarming the place. Not a whole else lot to do there.

We were on a fanstatic three hour walking tour that ended here and we thought, wonderful- we can sit and figure out what to do next while we rested our feet. But unlike another review says, there were no tables or chairs. This was April 11 but it was nice out. I think there were two tables and five chairs in the whole square. Someone doesn't care. And, while lots of folks were milling about, noene was relaxing and taking it all in, because you couldn't. We ended up choosing a place right in front of us and sat inside as that was what was available and did fine but I want to give it one beause it wauld be so easy to correct.

When we visited during the Holidays, we enjoyed walking around the Square and seeing the great architecture, holiday lights, and vendors. Certainly worth 30-60 minutes, especially if you are staying nearby.

I've worked downtown for years, and always enjoyed getting coffee and food at Market Square, but now in 2022 there seems to be a lot of bums camping out, insulting and harassing people.

Very disappointing. We were here a few years ago and it had a very different vibe. When we visited this time it was dirty and aggressive homeless panhandlers everywhere. There was an encampment of one group setup in the square blaring inappropriate fowl lyric music. There seemed to be some abandoned buildings next to a Starbucks we went into where it smelled of urine. My wife, children and I did not feel safe there and saw no police presence. We felt unsafe throughout Downtown Pittsburgh for many reasons and hopefully the city figures it out soon.

Hi. Best to check google maps first to get an idea of distance. Not sure which double tree you plan to stay in. What I usually do is check google maps and then ask the hotel concierge for suggestions to get there.

It's less than a mile and 5th street is mostly flat. It takes about 15 minutes. Walking is a good idea since parkingis an issue around Market Square

There are a few places to eat and walking around town can be a fun experience. If you want to venture further, the strip district is not far away either.

It is about a 20 minute walk, but sidewalks everywhere. It is near the Consol Center where the Penguins play, an area that is being developed and might be a tad dicey at night.
