Hawk Falls and Boulder Field

Loved the Hawk Falls trail. Not long at all, although you do have to watch your step. Parking is limited, so it pays to get there early, or go on a weekday. We also went to Boulder Field....very unusual site. It's a vast field of boulders in the middle of the forest. It was nice to sit there and relax.

A beautiful State park to visit
2023年8月
This was a great discovery, what a gem of a park. Fishing was our main reason for going and we were not disappointed. The hiking trails were well marked and laid out, easy to navigate. The visitors center was a plus as it offered clean rest rooms, a plethora of information and a history of the park.

Great place to explore with family and friends!

Been to Hickory Run many of times with family and friends. Shades of death trail is great with the kids, along with boulder field which we all loved! Highly recommend seeing Hawk falls too. If your in the area and love to hike, don’t pass it up!

Great local park

Good for camping and hiking. Family friendly. The switchback trail is a nice 6-mile hike. Close to Jim Thorpe for dinner.

Would rather stay at Tobyhanna State Park.
We do a lot of state parks in the surrounding areas. This was, by far the worst bathrooms we have ever encountered. The cleaning was at 8:30 - 9:30 when everyone was trying to get going, the cleaning didn't seem to be very thorough and there are not enough bathroom facilities for the size of the camp. The camp's visitors center has much money poured into it. I wish this much detail was given to the bathrooms.

Nice hike and waterfalls at Shades of Death Trail

Enjoyed a short hike at Shades of Death trail
(one of many amazing trails ) at Hickory Run State Park which ended up with a picturesque waterfalls

Very disappointed

Very disappointed. No signs to find the park depended on GPS. Roads to park are like driveways. Staff at office just short of rude. Campsites poorly maintained. I was afraid to sit at the picnic table as I was afraid it would collapse. Roads in park just short of paths again poor signage . I don't know where the beautiful scenery is, we did not see it. Construction started early in the morning right behind our site with highhos ,dump trucks and bulldozers. Park staff definitely did not obey park speed limit. Will not be returning here for sure!

Hickory Run is a perfect getaway

Hickory Run State Forest is a nature lover's gem. There are many trails to choose from. They are marked and fresh and along the river. The visitor's center is clean and educational with displays and maps.

Nice gem to find!

Amazing and beautiful visitor center with fantastic mini exhibit explaining the Boulder Field. Do not miss seeing the real Boulder Field as it's a fascinating geological phenomenon. We did the 3.5 mile hike in and it was peaceful forest and mostly flat, though rocky. Also worth a stop at Hawks Falls which is a short 10-15 min each way and pretty, and the FireLine Trail had a decent scenic spot. Well maintained park, plenty of staff. Give it a try!!
