Went to the Butterfly Zoo with a friend as we purchased a Groupon discount admission. Don't let first impressions fool you! Outside is nothing to look at and at first we drove right by the place. Once inside, it is absolutely amazing. So many beautiful butterflies and so much color. The day we went they were really flying all around. I was able to get some great pictures, however. Nice little hidden secret in the middle of nowhere. Try it, you will like it.

If you've never been to a butterfly farm and have toddlers, this place is perfect - small and quiet. However, if you've ever been to a real butterfly farm, you should skip this. We had a groupon and spent about 15 minutes here. The young man who assisted us was very polite, friendly, and knowledgeable, but spoke with us like we were preschoolers. I definitely think very small children would enjoy this, but no one over age 5.

This butterfly zoo is really tiny and probably you should visit early in the season, like May or June, when there would be more butterflies. Not too many at this time of year but they still will land on you. The employee who was there this day was very knowledgeable and a lot of fun to listen to and kids were enjoying him as well as adults. I wish there had been more species but I do believe it being the end of the season that there weren't as many as earlier. Its a great photo taking experience as it is not crowded with people and you do have more likelihood in this small place to have butterflies land on you. We particularly were taken with the Owl Butterfly.

Loved the butterflies!! They do not come out if it is cool and cloudy, so plan your trip for a bright and sunny day and you will be amazed! The owner had a stroke earlier in the summer, but the guides from URI are still at the Farm and giving tours. It is NOT CLOSED due to the owner's stroke, but only closed when the butterflies are not flying. Enjoy!

Many interesting looking catterpillars and butterlies. Nice way to spend an hour. Bring the kids- as long as they arent a toddler. You cant touch the butterflies- so i could see that being difficult for them.
Worth the trip.

Loved the exotic butterflies and the depth of knowledge exhibited by the staff. Unfortunately, when I went back a few days later with my camera, it was closed. Apparently, the owner. Had a stroke and the landlord closed shop on him. I hope for a speedy recovery!

Without a Groupon, we would not have known the place existed. Day trip to Tiverton for a visit was worthwhile, but if we had arrived earlier than 10:55, it might not have happened. We saw the Closed sign and were turning around to leave when two young men pulled in. Turns out they are the "guides," who told us they opened at 11. Later saw a schedule posted on door, but it was not obvious from parking area. Happy things turned out as they did. Although tiny compared to other butterfly houses we have visited, the intimate setting made us feel engulfed by butterflies. There were several colorful specimens; the guides were knowledgeable and seemed especially good with the several children visiting. Patience rewarded with a couple terrific photos. Tropical conditions made for a 20-minute stay. Lunch at Evelyn's, just up the road, made for a perfect August outing.

Where else can you be among butterflies from all over the world, & have knowledgeable staff at your fingertips to enhance this experience? Only at the Newport Butterfly Zoo, now located in Tiverton, RI. We brought my 8 year old niece who was a little skiddish, but could not stop talking about it afterwards. The photos cannot even capture the beauty and there was no shortage of butterflies to see. We went on a Friday and were privileged to be there to see them open a new delivery of butterflies and let them free of their packages. We loved it!

Does ANYONE know how Marc Schenck is doing after his stroke? I am an old friend of his but I have been unable to reach him by phone or email.

I am not sure when they open. I went during the summer months and it was wonderful. It is very difficult to contact them by phone, as they do not always answer or get back to you. But keep trying as it is a lot of fun and the butterflies are breathtaking!!

Is this place still in operation for 2015? Their website is suddenly nonexistent and no one answers the phone. I'd love to take the kids, but don't want to get there and have it be closed.

If you have not been able to use your Groupon or other coupon for the Butterfly Zoo, you may either use it next year (no expiration date problems) or you may take it to "The Butterfly Place" in Westford, MA. where they will honor the Butterfly Zoo groupon.
We all thank the Butterfly Zoo guides, Trevor, Michael, James and Kevin for keeping the Butterfly Zoo open all summer and we wish Mark a continued recovery and we all look forward to seeing the Butterfly Zoo open in June 2016!
