It was a great pleasure serving you and your group! This is what I love about my life, producing and sharing interesting and new experiences. People often ask me which is my favorite wine. The answer is a simple one - none. As the producer, if I had a favorite wine, it wouldn't take long before all our wines starting tasting the same, just like a "favorite." Similarly for our guest, if you find a "favorite" wine, then the discovery of new and interesting wines would be over... and people love to discover! We're glad you found some wines to take home and don't forget, if you bring the bottle back, we'll refill it with the same of something else, and save you a few dollars in the process~ "Wine Growlers" Thanks again for stopping by and we look forward to your next visit. It's great watching and listening to such laughter!!! Y'all we're the best~! Cheers~ Shannon & Kim Mercer

Mrs. Stewart I apologize that Kim and I were unable to serve you on your visit. Our mission is to create and serve the most unique wines in South Carolina. I recall the conversation with Kim when she mentioned she had to inform you we were closing in 5 minutes. On that particular evening, the "other guest" you saw were gathering for a Private event that was scheduled in advance. Normally, if our reserved guest don't mind, we would certainly have invited y'all to stay. In this case, the guest reserved the venue for an invitation only event. We close relatively early each day so we may have the option to host public and private events in the evening hours. As for the Open Sign, it automatically comes on and off at the times posted on our sites, which match the three signs in our parking area. I guess we could program the sign to go off prior to our closing time... What would you suggest? You mentioned the times posted on our sites, I have reviewed the sites and found them to be correct. I'm not sure what else we could do on that point... I would encourage you to reconsider and make another trip to our humble winery. If you take a few minutes and read our Facebook reviews, I'm sure you will find nothing but positive remarks and comments. Kim and I have gone to considerable lengths to ensure our guest have a very pleasurable experience. Our small winery and vineyards represent our entire livelihood. It's very important to us to make the best possible impression whenever possible. We understand that we don't always get a second chance to make a first impression... Should you find us worthy of a second chance, I will happily extend a complimentary glass of wine for both you and your husband. Again, I send my sincere apologizes for your less than favorable experience~ Shannon Mercer / Owner - Winegrower

It's always a pleasure to serve such a great group of ladies. It sounds, however, like I didn't get each wine poured in your glass. I say that because, of the 12 wines in the flight, 2 were sweet, 4 were semi-sweet and the remaining half were bone dry... Sweet: Sophia & Blueberry. Semi-sweet: Hattie, Dulcet Fox, Wilderness Plum & Blueberry Heat. Dry: Casablanca, Gamecork, 7th Heaven, White Peach, Roasted Strawberry & Kale. You are correct on the "unfinished" description, except we refer to the style as "raw" where they are young, non-filtered or refined. The aim for last years vintage was to represent the earliest wines of North America. But this only accounts for nearly half the flight. The remaining 7 wines we're treated like most contemporary wineries where the wines were filtered, fined and polished. "Finished": Casablanca, Gamecork, Dulcet Fox, Roasted Strawberry & Kale. "Raw": Hattie, 7th Heaven, Sophia, Wilderness Plum, White Peach, Blueberry Bomb & Blueberry Heat. Thanks for the support and try again next year as we'll have a whole new lineup~ Cheers!

$10 per person is certainly enough to endure the agony of vinophobes like this. Bless your ‘lil heart~ We have witnessed a true lesson in history (which was immediately debunked) and despite knowing ahead of time, this guest was surprised to discover that muscadine is the only grape that grows in SC. Assumptions are a sure fire way to earn respect. It doesn’t matter that Mercer House is one of only 10 Organic wineries in the entire U.S. and surprisingly omits sugar from the process. Naturally we have a "forest of 5 gallon buckets stacked in a lean-to! Don't all commercial wineries do that? Hehe It’s irrelative that Colonial wines we’re predominantly young, non-filtered “Country” wines, made from every available fruit possible. Besides, I guess it would make far more sense to import European grape juice to express our southern terroir. Hehe~ I guess too, the “pour cup” on the tables weren’t good enough or most likely, too full to pour out the “less desirable” wines. Unlike Dandelion wines, Wisteria is distinctive from all other “Country” wines. The amusing absurdity is “knowing” your allergic to Wisteria, and yet entertaining the tasting! I guess without actually suffering, one cannot write the "tale of survival" known as the Mercer House winery... It’s not enough to be ashamed or shame a family business, but let’s toss in the other guest as well… “Pretentious Southern Belle!?” All this guilt and shame for one’s self must be the excuse for doing the same to others. I can’t even imagine how arrogant and misinformed this review could have turned out! Apparently, shame has no limits… (FYI Biology Lesson~ Wisteria blooms for approximately two weeks in March and produces a relatively small quantity of pollen. Pine Trees on the other hand, bloom from March through May and are known for their “rain of yellow snow.”) Content is validated when the facts are accurate. Endearing is someone who protects their family and friends while sending all others to the lions. Referencing a debunked Sheriff is the epitome of inappropriate analogies. I would however, have to agree, why would "out-of-town visitors" ask you anything? Unless of course, they too are open to shameful criticism... Without actually witnessing the facts, it must be ok, and even encouraged, to make assumptions. Especially when they’re self-serving and negatively biased. Because we didn’t have the privilege of a formal winemaking education, we wouldn’t know to go further in debt and purchase only the finest and overpriced “tools of the trade.” Just think, we could have spent that 4 year education learning how to produce European varietal wines from grapes that don’t even grow in SC! It does however, seem apparent that this vinophobe has vast winemaking experience. Without mentioning things like our Penny Floor, the Porta-John or Tasting Barn, nor one positive comment about any of the remaining 12 wines, I would have to question whether they was even here. Despite the self-righteous and discouraging intent of this review, we're not going to close the winery. In fact, it's enough to make this winegrower continue on a path of producing wines, we like for ourselves. And to further validate the accuracy, this self-apparent oenologist/viticulturist/vinophobe has omitted the highly restrictive and challenging content of SC wine production laws. It’s understandable however, that someone who wasn’t raised in the south, would dislike so much about the south. It does make one wonder, why do people move away from a place and then expect the culture to adjust… It was suggested; “Support local”, which apparently means, (other than themselves) "stop by the winery", take up the "nice" proprietor's time and product, but support anywhere else. Just another example of understanding how small business works and survives (which apparently is not the vinophobes desire). Never mind the 20+ hour workdays, 7 days per week, or the entire life savings that has been invested. Never mind the 50 varietal “field-blended” flavors that can never be reproduced. Never mind the 14 week, 10 miles per day harvest, picking literally one grape at a time. So, what does "Bored" mean? It's clearly an insight to this vinophobe. When diversity and boredom are overwhelming, that's a good time to share a biased and shaming insight of local businesses and put on heirs of “all knowing” on most certainly, any topic! Meanwhile; *Check out the only Wine Growlers is SC! *Our new Single Serve "VinoGoGo" wine pouches! They're great for picnics, hiking, camping and sport events! *New Wine Slushies / 2 Awesome Flavors~ *New Limited - "Blueberry Fire" wine! (Blueberry, White Peach & Jalapeño Wine) *Sunday's Tastings are paired with Live Organic Guitar and Gourmet Cheese Platters! *Wednesday Evenings are "Color'n Chill" night~ 6-8pm *You can also book our New "Vine & Wine Tours" online. 2 hours of interactive tastings in the 5 vineyards from our stretch Wine Cart! *For more realistic Reviews, visit our Facebook page (Mercer House Estate Winery) *And if you don't like our wines, it's ok to say so on the spot~ *We're easy like that... ~Cheers!
