One of the highlights of our vacation. Very interesting and informative experience for our first time visiting a plantation. Was truly everything and more than what we expected. Asked multiple people which plantation to visit and also researched myself and can said without a doubt this is the plantation to visit!

The different tours at the site were very good. However, the Big House was not the house present during the slavery era, but rather one built in 1935. This detracted from the experience. The time of that tour could have been better spent exploring the slave cabins which were really very descriptive of that era....

We were unsuccessful in getting a tour to another planation while in Charleston and thought we would just go here instead and we were glad we did. The grounds are very nice and well kept. We went in the fall and cannot imagine what they look like in the spring. The staff on the property were very nice and helpful. We enjoyed walking the grounds and learning about life on the plantation. The plantation has changed ownership several times and each one contributed to the success of the plantation. We felt like we needed more time to explore the grounds but our ride had come to take us back to town. We would go back to visit again.

NIce depiction of what life was for the slaves and owners of the plantation many years ago. Low stress day with a beautiful setting and look of what the old South would have looked like.

The tours and access to the grounds at Boone Hall were amazing. We definitely recommend the Gullah Culture presentation was the best as she was such a great story teller. Before you leave, you need to experience the tractor tour. It's amazing just how much land the plantation owns and how they use it.

Boone Hall was a great experience. Very informative we recommend each and every tour. The only one I feel like is skippable would be the stable. Wheelchair accessible to most events except for the mansion. All the tour guys were very pleasant very nice and very informative. I also highly recommend the ice cream especially the praline. We went with an infant and they were very accommodating, I would recommend to bring a toy or some sort of entertainment since they do tend to get bored easily but these tours are Max 35 minutes some even shorter than that. We also went during the rainy season so make sure you bring something for your infant to stay dry and yourselves.

Disappointed in how commercialized the plantation felt. The wagon tour of the grounds talked at length about the haunted Halloween activities on the plantation. I believe there were three weddings being set up during the time we were there. Wedding guests and bridal parties were arriving all afternoon. During a very moving Gullah presentation, a rental truck was backing up just yards from us. The loud beeping from the truck backing up was very distracting and caused us to miss part of the presentation. I guess they were there to set up tables and chairs behind the slave dwellings for a wedding reception. It felt rude and disrespectful to have the truck coming through during the presentation. Perhaps the history of the slaves and their life stories should be a separate entity from the rest of the compound. The slave dwellings should provide more personal history of the people. We heard up to 15 people lived in each tiny cabin. They could put 15 mannequins on display in one of the cabins to show a visual of living arrangements. Because from looking inside the cabin, it was difficult to imagine 15 people being able to sleep in there. Six, at the most? Where were the slaves buried when they died? On the grounds? If so, this area should be marked as such, and shouldn’t be the site of the weddings, fall festivals and hayrides. Not sure why a plantation would be a choice for a wedding, but it seems very popular, as we heard there are 150 weddings there a year.
The focal point of the plantation should be all about the slaves. Not about the owners and their big house, or the gardens, or the gift shop, or the multiple areas on the grounds for a wedding. These reviews should be about what you learned from the plantation about the slaves. They were kidnapped and forced to endure years of terrible treatment. We should at least acknowledge this and leave the plantation with an understanding of what life might have been like for them living there. The most moving moment of the 5 hours I spent there, was when the Gullah presenter explained the meaning of the song “Kumbaya.” It was very emotional to hear the presenter singing the song. Luckily the rental truck wasn’t backing up at that particular moment, or I would have missed a moment I will never forget.

We are only going to be driving through South Carolina. But I wanted to go and see this plantation with the beautiful Oak Trees. If we have to pay $90 to see the oaks and a few items, I can't do this. I only have an hour that we can be in this area. Is it possible to see the Oaks and house from the gate for a picture? We have 20 days to go to 21 states. If I won't be able to see the beautiful Oaks then I will head on over to Wilmington which is where I need to be on August 23rd. But I did want to drive to Boone Hall and experience these beautiful Oaks if it would be possible.

About what does it cost to take a Taxi from Charleston Historic District to Boone Hall

We booked a tour and it was lovely. It included transportation and tickets. Due to covid Taxis and Ubers were hard to find in April. I suggest this option. Way easier and you wont get stranded.

Approximately how much time is needed to enjoy all of the activities here?
撰写日期:2021年4月4日
The house itself, although beautiful, takes a very short time to see. You can't go up to the second floor (not sure the reason why) and the back room on the first floor called the 'man cave' you are not allowed to go in anymore after the whole COVID phenomena. What takes like about an hour is the wagon ride outside across the property. It is actually very informative. Then you can walk along one side of the property where the old slave quarters are situated, which shouldn't take you that long, unless you decide to stop at the last one at the end to listen to a small presentation about the set culture an customs of the slaves. Unfortunately, I personally lost interest after a few minutes watching the presenter wearing a plastic face shield on stage and wearing time-era attire. Because of it, you kind of lose the momentum.

Is Boone Hall open on Thanksgiving Day, with tours and presentations going on as well?

You are required to purchase the tickets before you enter the plantation at the ticket booth. The Row of Oaks begins soon after you pass that ticket booth. There is no additional fees to see all attractions.

I will be in Charleston for a week in April without a car. Are there any tours from Charleston to Boone Hall Plantation?
撰写日期:2019年1月20日
If there are no tours just take an Uber. Uber is very popular in Charleston and you will have no trouble getting one. Make sure you do the Horst and buggy in Charleston. Very informative. Enjoy!
