This is not a fair review. Its like the ones for restaurants where the poor rating is over the server. The food is what I cam for, please rate the damn food. I did not come for the skiing. I came to ski South Dakota as part of a bucket list. So this review is not about the skiing.

We needed to ski Terry Peak to drive to Bismarck, ND as part of bucket list so had only had a few hours. As such, we decided not to pay for a full day for the entire mountain and choose the green run option. The two runs were fine. If I was a beginner, they would keep me interested while learning.

It wasn't the skiing that we did not like, it was the ambience and almost attitude. This place is a big mom and pop acting like Vail. It should have had a family experience but it did not come off that way at all. The staff were young and not very useful.

Took my first snowboard lesson and would highly recommend it Corwin our instructor was super helpful and patient. I love Terry Peak and can’t wait to get back

We've skied Colorado for years and didn't know what to expect from Terry Peak. It really is a gem tucked away in South Dakota. We were fortunate to have a foot of powder fall the first day we were there. There are just a few lifts and the runs are shorter but it is such an affordable place to ski. We only skied for 2 days which was the right amount for this resort. Highly recommend for an affordable quick ski trip

Months in advance, my son, my brother and I had planned a ski trip to Colorado for my son's spring break. When COVID-19 started hitting the Colorado mountain towns we planned to divert to Montana; a day later the Montana areas closed. So we ended up at Terry Peak.

I lived in Colorado for several years in the 90's but am mostly a Minnesota boy. But 90+% of my ski runs have been in Colorado (including two years of 60+ ski days). And Terry Peak is not Colorado. I explained to my brother and son that it was about like if you'd take Mount Dercum (front peak of Keystone) and scaled it down 50%. But most people don't ride Mount Dercum top to bottom without stopping a few times anyway. A lot of people will ride a mid-mountain lift all day with little more vertical than Terry. So seriously... let's drop the size-matters thing. It does, but anything with around 1000' vertical is enough to make a really respectable ski run.

As for terrain, all three of us were very satisfied with what was available over the course of two days. There were a lot of nice cruisers, limited moguls, some more challenging chutes and some respectable glade runs. I think the people looking for groomers will probably be more satisfied than those looking for more challenging terrain, but both are there.

And respect... the view from Terry Peak need not feel second class to the view from any Colorado ski area. If you don't just love the Black Hills then you should probably read someone else's review.

Oh... and the folks working the mountain were great. Every one that I interacted with, anyway.

My wife and I decided to come here and ski for the first time for her birthday. We took the adult beginner lesson. I was an amazing experience. I found out that skiing is not easy at all. I was aching by the time we left, it would take some time to get use to this sort of thing. The slope was nice from what we seen. I was an amazing experience.

My son and I had been watching their website every day to see if they had enough snow and had been grooming it. When we felt the base was deep enough and they had everything open, we decided to go. The night before they got 4 inches of fresh powder, so we were stoked. Our experience wasn’t awful, but it said they had groomed almost all of their runs and nothing was groomed the entire day. I don’t mind some powder skiing, but with a place this busy, fresh powder quickly becomes ice followed by moguls...everywhere. My son is just learning to snowboard, and he found it hard to learn to carve in these conditions. Plus, at 44, these conditions were harder on my thighs and knees than I was hoping for. As I mentioned, I like some fresh powder here and there, but also appreciate a few groomed trails that you can get some speed in.

The guy's that run the grooming equipment at the mountain are the best !!! Even when we haven't had much natural snow they somehow keep the conditions excellent !!! During the week it is almost like having your own private ski area as you never wait in line and sometimes you will have a run to yourself !!

Not all the runs were open when we visited but those that were were well groomed and the restaurants are nice.

However we were able to ski the whole mountain in one day. Then it was a little boring. We had bought a 3 day lift pass and actually left at midday on the last day. We are good skiers but we choose the location as we wanted to visit Mount Rushmore and knew that it wouldn't have lots of runs, but were disappointedly they were so short. We loved the area and stayed in Deadwood but would not return to ski.

We are keen skiers and have skied some of the smaller resorts in Vermont and did not find this resort value for money for the cost of the lift pass.

Family has traveled to Terry Peak to ski annually for the past 8 years over the holidays. We have ski and snow boarders in the group of all skill levels. Everyone enjoyed the mountain and was able to ski/board as much as they could handle. Lifts are in great shape, runs were nicely groomed and lift lines were less than half what you would see in Colorado or other larger resorts. The lodge can get very crowded during peak lunch hours so I recommend eating early or late if you need to use this service. Bunny hill and ski school are great for beginners and senior citizens ski for free! Highly recommend this budget friendly ski resort to families with younger kids as it is much safer than larger resorts to keep track of everyone and you will get in plenty of skiing or boarding (or maybe even more) than you would at a larger, pricier resort. The runs are definitely shorter, but so are the lift lines....so you will get in plenty of skiing. Depending on amount of snowfall, there can be years where not all of the runs are open, but the resort tries to open and maintain as much as they feasibly can based on the weather.

Took 2 teen boys for the day. The lines actually were not that long for a holiday. They had a great time, had their fill, got a work out. As far as I know, the staff does a good job fitting them with equipment too.
