Worth a trip if you live in the area or are passing through, particularly if you turn it into a picnic lunch. Sort of the aftermath of the Battle of Fort Donelson.

The interpretive center explains not only Fort Defiance (Sevier) very well, but Clarksville during the American Civil War and Reconstruction. What's left of the fort itself might be a disappointment for some. During spring and summer, the trees tend to block line of sight to the rivers, which was the whole point of the place.

The are walkways around the area that have some sort of educational sign, not necessarily 1860s 1860s related.

A nice park that was free to park and go into the visitor center. A great walk around the grounds. The film inside the visitor center gives you some great history of the town and the war. Can do it all in about a hour.

I was driving through Clarksville after having an afternoon lunch and noticed the sign for this Fort. I didn't know a lot about this one as some other ones I had been to both during the time I grew up in scouting, or as an adult the ones I've visited.
Plus I realized this one also had a walking trail too when I got there and thought okay I will check it out.
For a small City Park run by the City of Clarksville, TN this is a very nice day trip if you live in the region and by living in Bowling Green, Kentucky this was awesome to visit.
The lady at the desk on July 25th was one of the nicest people I have met in a while and answered any questions I asked her.
She directed me about the film you can go in and start yourself with the remote and then there is a small little informative area about stuff with some artifacts on display.
The trail is moderate as long as you're in good shape, or walk a lot. It was very humid the on this day and I only had a little issue on the last part coming up due to the humid weather, but most of us deal with that too.
Has picnic tables on the trail and more as well. Would be a great place for couples, families and even just yourself like I did on this day.
Has a couple of Civil War canons on the trail too.

There is free parking on site and to tour the interpretive center and fort are free. There is a 30-minute film about the site and some artifacts from the period in the interpretive center along with a small gift store. The fort itself is underwhelming at best, with just some earthworks remaining. It is a stop I would recommend for Civil War history buffs, but otherwise not really worth the effort of going.

This is worth 30 minutes. Read the history and imagine yourself back in the days of the civil war. The interpretive center was closed due to covid, but a brief read about the historical significance will quickly give the framework regarding the fort.

Unfortunately, the visitor center had a sign on the door saying it was closed until 2:30 pm. With that, I started walking along the trail and there was very little to read in regards to signage along the route. I felt I was taking a stroll in the forest with nothing else to stimulate my walk. I am sure my visit would of been better had the center been open and a map provided upon check in.

Excelente lugar, muy bonito y lleno de historia. Tiene un museo donde ves una película de la historia de la guerra, puedes caminar por una vereda donde vas leyendo más sobre la historia del lugar.

The park sits 200 feet above the Red and Cumberland Rivers. Originally Native Americans inhibited the area. Then in the 18th century the white settlers arrived and it became a trading center and settlement.

During the Civil War confederates used earthworks on the hilltop to defend the river approach to Clarksville. It was later captured by the union in 1862. The earthworks are still there and there is evidence of the powder magazine and gun platforms.

I found the museum/interpretive center to be interesting and the walking trails around the hilltop were an easy walk. There are also picnic tables so grab a picnic lunch. The views from the top are very nice and the park is well maintained. If you have any questions the people in the museum seemed very knowledgeable. You should check it out if you are in the area.

This was a nice facility with a beautiful view. There's a nice trail with information signs & then a interesting museum inside the center.

The film is wonderful because it is from the perspective of the families left behind during the war & the difficulty they experienced.

They have a nice collection of items.
