This is a fort with a lot of interesting history. It cost $2 per person for foreigners to enter the fort and an extra 20 cordobas per person to go down into the dungeon. We recommend you go with a guide so you can get a better understanding of the history of the area. The fort was built in 1893 and President Somoza rehabilitated the fort in the 1930s. The fort was previously used as a prison during periods of civil unrest and the conditions for the prisoners would have been very grim. The fort has a prominent position 360 metres above sea level on a hill known as the hill of the coyotes and from the top of the fort there are expansive views over the area.

Semmi különleges látnivaló de a hely története megrázó. Sajnos nincs valami jól karbantartva. A külföldiek megemelt bejárati dijat fizetnek. Nem valami túl nagy de engemet zavart. Az udvaron levö keresztek azonban sokkolóak. 1972-ben itt még végeztek ki embereket. A börtönök nagysága iszonyu ha belegondolsz hogy 20-30 ebert is belezsufoltak.

いわくつきの昔の刑務所です。懐中電灯を手に真っ暗な建物の中をガイド付きで見学できます。肝試しが好きな人なら楽しいかもしれません。その目的で来る人たちもいます。家族向きのアトラクションとはいえません。建物の中に入らなくても、外でマサヤ市の景色を楽しむだけで充分です。

We arrived just before they closed the gates and just in time to watch the sun set. Amazing view. Didn't have the chance to tour the place because they were closing.

this fortress was used as a jail up until quite recently. there are local kids there who will take you for a tour and tell you the history of the place, well worth the couple of bucks the kid charges, great views from the top in all directions.

We traveled in a group of eight with Eleda Transporte (Bosco) and he took us to El Coyotepe. What we learned there will always stay with me. The young man who was our tour guide was very friendly and pleasant. We paid $2 each to take the tour and it was well worth the time.

This was a hard topic & tour but well worth the visit to El Coyotepe. The guide had a good amount of information. The guide brings you through each floor of the prison & informs you about what was known during the time of imprisonment under Somoza’s dictatorship as well as after during the Sandinista use of the prison.

I didn't go into the place as my partner is repelled by places that are known for their inhuman treatment of their inhabitants, and this place certainly qualifies as that, including torture chambers and the like. Somoza's political prisoners were held here. For those in our group who went, I gather it was a sobering experience and a vivid reminder of man's inhumanity to man.

Pièce importante de l'Histoire du Nicaragua et de sa révolution!
Malheureusement le lieu et un peu sale mais des efforts ont été réalisé et des petits guides improvisées apporte quelques informations très intéressantes sur le fonctionnement de cette ancienne prison, centre de torture du régime Somosiste pendant la révolution.

Let me preface this by saying that I would not recommend this as a family attraction! Our tour guide was very informative and answered our questions. I was surprised that I had never heard of this place before going here because the history is pretty terrible and it wasn’t even from that long ago. Our guide talked about the brutal torture and rapes that occurred here which is why I wouldn’t recommend this if you have young children. If you are into historical sights this place might interest you. Beware of the bats!
