This is a picturesque spot in Dartmoor National Park, but we weren't able to stay for very long, thanks to the parking meter that didn't accept credit cards—only pound coins, which we didn't have. One of us stayed with the car while the other snapped a photo!

Stopped off here as i was flitting around Dartmoor. Such a beautiful spot, and the bridge(s), in the heart of this tiny village, with a national park visitor centre just across the road.
I spent a pleasant couple of hours here exploring the bridges, park, and walking the area. A really lovely spop to spend some time away from all the hustle and bustle.
Oh, and the pic i've added, yes, I know it's not the clapper bridge, It's right next to it.
There was a small group having a picnic on it, and i didn't want to intrude :)

Dartmoor is famed for its clapper bridges and this is by way the best one. Postbridge is a small village but is home to one of several information centres across the moor which offers plenty of parking for a small donation. The bridge is literally across the road - great for a paddle perhaps or a picnic, and even better no doubt if you have a dog.

Lovely tranquil spot.
We stopped off here whilst driving through Dartmoor, it’s fascinating when you think of how old it is and how many people will have used it over the ages.
There’s a car park & National Trust Visitor centre with car park across the road about 50 meters from the location. Car parking is a donation of £1 & there’s toilets too.
There’s also a local shop selling ice creams & drinks.

Great example of this ancient river crossing. Can stand or sit on it for ages watching the water swirling below.

Clapper bridges are an ancient form of bridge, most commonly erected in medieval times to aid river crossings, other river crossings included fords and stepping stones. The word clapper is thought to derive from the Anglo-Saxon word ‘cleaca’, meaning stepping stones or bridging the stepping stones. This is a great, safe, place for the children to bathe, play, splash and enjoy themselves.

You have to see this ancient bridge. Its a nice stop off on Dartmoor with nearby walks. There is a local store nearby and plenty of parking along the road. If you cross the moor then you must stop here.

How old is clapper bridge ??

Apparently there has been some form of bridge in place for aeons. I agree with the above comment.... probably 13th or 14th century for the stones there now. And some times the stones were washed away by bad storms and floods and then put back in place. We need someone who lives near these to give a more detailed and more accurate commentary though. The area of the clapper bridge is truly beautiful and there are paths where you can take walks. I'd wear hiking boots though or sturdy shoes as some areas of the paths are muddy. And you might need to jump a puddle or two if past weather has been inclement. Enjoy!
