Visited as a family of 4 with 2 under 5s. Absolutely fascinating for all ages, activities for the kids including a treasure hunt style paper to do, loads of interactive exhibits (including the star exhibit herself - the Tivvy Bumper) with dress up costumes. Lovely staff and really well thought out gift shop. The star of the museum as I’ve said is the GWR 14xx tank engine number 1442 known as the Tivvy Bumper which after its branchline through Tiverton was closed by Dr Beeching was saved from the scrap man by locals and placed into the museum - it has definite Titfield Thunderbolt vibes which just adds to the rosey eyed nostalgia.

Amazing. I am disabled using a mobility scooter. I had access to every part of the museum. Brilliant for children. I followed two families around. The children were having so much fun dressed up as maids and train engine drivers.

Really great museum! Lots of really interesting information covering the wars, farming, archeology, locomotives and so much more. Brilliant for children too- plenty of toys, activities, dressing up. Very welcoming and helpful staff too. Would highly recommend

What a fantastic museum...infact I can probably say the best, so very interesting, and loved dressing up, had some fun photostat show the family..a great day out. You will not be disappointed

A great Museum for young children. Ride on to ride while you look around. My son loves the train. The only thing that made it horrible was a women to told me off for my son being to loud. Its set up for children if you want quiet don't go to musesum that is set up children.

This is a lovely small museum, the focus is very much on local issues with a huge number of agricultural implements and tools, but includes many other activities including silk manufacturing, and other skills in use.
There are a number of activities for children, including dressing up, games. quizzes, colouring etc. Also a lift to make the exhibits accessible for prams, wheel chairs etc all very useful.
In addition there is a gallery devoted to railway items including one of the last steam engines to work in the Exe valley, lovely for a photo opportunity
So why not five star? Simply that I felt the price of admission was high and no concession for the elderly

Great museum, lots to do for adults and children.
Children in our group loved the dressing up areas.
Lovely morning was had by all.

I really didn't know what to expect but it was much more interesting and had such a wide range, it was enchanting. The details of life in a Victorian town was excellent. I was especially impressed with the explanations.
The down side was the cost. Almost a tenner, and how splendid if they were to allow say a week on the same ticket

What a hidden treasure the museum is, as are also the staff for whom ensuring the value of the experience is maximised.

Hi Karen, Unfortunately only assistance dogs are allowed in the museum itself. If you're happy to 'park' your dog in the shade by the entrance or in our yard area we can provide a water bowl.

Hi Angela,
We are open Monday to Friday 10:30-4:30 and Saturdays 10:00-4:00 between February and Christmas. The museum is open on Bank Holidays.
Please note that due to maintenance the museum will be closed on Thursday 14th April and on the afternoon of Thursday 21 April.
The town's Tourist Information Service is also based at the museum, and has slightly different opening hours:
Winter opening (October to March):
Monday-Saturday 10:00am - 4:00pm
Sunday CLOSED
(Summer opening hours 9:30-4:30 Monday-Saturday April to September).
Open on Bank Holidays.
