Such a wonderful little asset to the town. Limited opening hours but well worth seeking out. Entertained the grandkids too!

A small but fascinating museum. We visited on a Heritage day en route from Dorchester to Exeter. We were pleasantly greeted and offered a talk and demonstration of rope making. My husband participated with much enjoyment while I went around the museum appreciating the exhibits and local history. Everything was well presented and it was clear that the staff had a real enthusiasm for their jobs.

Very disappointing indeed. Very little to see unless you have a particular interest in rope-making (on which the town was largely based in the past). The number of exhibits was very small and, whilst it must be accepted that this is a "small town museum", I felt that the experience had not been worthwhile.

What a great little museum. We were greeted by volunteers at the door and made to feel very welcome. They explained the contents and lay out of the museum to us. Two of our party are volunteers at the Mary Rose Museum in Portsmouth and it is believed that the anchor rope for the Mary Rose was made in Bridport. The volunteers put on a special demonstration of rope making for us which was fascinating and very informative. We learned so much about Bridport, rope and net making. The whole museum was well laid out and we really enjoyed it. We can thoroughly recommend it and thank you to the wonderful volunteers

Despite a gushing piece in the local paper that suggested that the Bridport museum was opening. Sadly, this proved not to be the case, which was a pity as we had a keen interest in the creation of Rope (one of the principle local industries in the C17th and-18th centuries]. Maybe next time

This week we've loved the Tuesday and Thursday walking tours. John and Mike were both excellent hosts delivering a wealth of fascinating details, without being overwhelming, always engaging, and providing a diverse history of this cheek by jowl town. Great stuff, well done. 👍👍

The rain kind of drove me into the museum but it was great. Well done to all concerned. Interesting history of the town and rope making and some fossils nicely curated.

There was the ubiquitous dressing up box and the rather over interactive exhibits but overall great.

Bridport Museum is in the middle of the small town and is really a most excellent museum. They have laid out their exhibits to attract the interest of the visitor and I for one was most impressed. The museum is small and they cover a wide range of artefacts and the history of the area. My first visit.
I really look forward to going back again next year.

We wandered in because the sign outside said it was the last weekend to see Turner. Fair enough. We were pretty much stopped from getting any further into the museum by a volunteer asking where we were from and if we'd been before and telling us about the rope making demonstration. Now I know that this was friendly and meant to be welcoming but the couple in front of me turned around and left and to be honest if I hadn't kept edging forward in not convinced I would've made it inside. Anyway ... Rope demonstration was really interesting, played with some tiny nooses, saw a very angry looking taxidermy squirrel. The small room where the Turner was was brilliant, along with other paintings and etchings and the member of staff in this room was informative without being pushy.
Upstairs I loved the light up map and the jars of 'cures' for some wonderful ailments. It's an interesting little museum well worth a visit for half an hour or so and a donation.
