Martin was amazing! He delivered a very engaging talk that made us believe we were professional fossil hunters! Lots of examples and model critters to help teach and learn the patterns and colours of things to spot.
Was great value for money and already suggest to other families we met on holiday and pretty sure you’ll be getting a few bookings in the future from them!

Martin was delightful and spent the first hour teaching us tips and tricks for spotting fossils amongst the rocks. As first timers, it really helped us. Once we headed down the beach, Martin spotted a few examples to show us. Then he let us hunt on our own and was there to answer questions or identify finds. He said the hunting varies from day to day as the tide change and water action is stronger or weaker. We were very happy with the fossils we found. Weather was even good after forecast of rain. Forecasts near the coast were often wrong.
Suggestion for travelers. Stop at a discount store before you get to the coast and buy some cheap shoes and socks to use on the hunt and then throw away. Otherwise you’ll muck up your car and where you’re staying.

We had a really enjoyable time with Martin and cannot recommend him enough . Obviously passionate about fossils and was very good at teaching us the necessary information to look for them after his talk . He made it fun to learn . Would definitely go again now as we found some interesting and rare fossils to take home with his constant support and advice during our time together

Martin Curtis was a very professional fossil teacher and guide. He was well prepared with examples of the types of fossils we might find and emphasized how to look with just your eyes. As a retired teacher, I know excellent teaching and he delivered information clearly, efficiently, and with good humor. He got us to the parts of Charmouth Beach where we did find many fossils. It was well worth hiring him!

Martin's training makes this experience amazing. He made the teaching and how to look for fossils so enjoyable. His passion for fossils and the science was energizing. My husband and I found lots of fossils because Martin taught us how to find fossils. I highly recommend Martin!

I think we found Martin through a Facebook post asking for fosil hunting recommendations. He responded very quickly to my emails giving all the relevant information beforehand, such as meeting place, clothing, and plan for the day - obviously needing to work around the tides.
When we arrived (2 adults 1 child) it was pouring down so we were grateful to be sat in the back of his car for the initial safety brief and hunting tips. He was brilliant at explaining the dangers and precautions, using photos to explain, which was great for the 7 year old. Then he talked through all of the types of fossils we could look for and how.
When we headed out to the beach, making our way along to various sites, Martin was great and pointing us in the right direction whilst ensuring we would start to learn the skills ourselves. He was very patient with the 7 year olds constant questions. He also gave a few extra fossils to us that he’d found during the session which was very kind.
Would 100% recommend, even if you’ve done fossil hunting in other U.K. regions. He had so much knowledge of that particular local area that we would have totally missed had we decided to just rock up alone. Thank you Martin!

At short notice Martin arranged a training session for myself and husband where he guided us through the essentials for safe and practical fossil hunting. This was very enjoyable and informative.

Interesting, informative, funny and friendly. A great day out with Martin who is a joy to spend time with, and whose passion is clear in the enthusiasm he delivers his educational experience with. We learnt a lot and found plenty of fossils too, thanks to his expert tutelage.

A brilliant day out with an experienced guide (Martin) exploring the Jurassic Coast at Charmouth. It was thoroughly enjoyable and educational and can’t wait to come back again. Martin is clearly very enthusiastic about what he does and his knowledge is excellent. Thank you for a fab day!

A great day out on the beach in Charmouth. It's so easy to find fossils once you know how - and now we do, thanks to our enthusiastic and knowledgable guide. Top tip would be dress for the weather and for scrambling over rocks: waterproof trousers, hiking boots, layers, and pack snacks and drinks as you'll end up wandering further and for longer than you planned. Throughly recomnmended.
