Really good day out very informative Highley recommend it older kids
My opinion we need more places like this to keep.it in our history before history of the war disappears from our schools

Glad you enjoyed the Centre . The Muesum is the actual site that, in 1944, thousands of American troops from the US 1st Infantry and US 29th Infantry Divisions embarked for Omaha beach.
If you visit again from Sun 30 Jun - Sat 31 Aug the Portland Coaster runs from Weymouth Kings Statue Portland bill and back and makes a stop at Portland Castle which is just a 5 min walk

A hands on experience (and I mean hands-on), tank, guns, vehicles and stories to bring Castletown's involvement of D-Day to life. I had no idea what went on here! Not much on the outside, but don't be put off, this really is a great way to spend a few hours, very kid friendly and the volunteers are passionate to share their museum. Small car park 50yds on from the museum and 10% off at the café across the street (with your entry ticket).

Very interactive, lots of guns, gear, artillery and even a tank to see. The staff were very friendly and informative. Plenty of good stuff in the shop too.

Great museum, extremely friendly and likeable staff on hand. What other museum allows your dog to drive a jeep? Or sit in a real tank? The stories of the young men and women involved in the D-Day landings are incredibly moving. Makes you realise how much we owe them. The concrete ramps between the museum and the castle were the loading point for the landing ships, so you really could not be closer to the start of the re-conquest of France. Wonderful visit.

It was lovely to meet you and especially Rosie. We proud ourselves of been Dog friendly and especially well behaved ones and Rosie the miniature schnauzer was a treasure.

What can we say, we took our niece and nephew to the Museum as we had heard how good it was. To say good would be an understatement. The fact that you can interact with the exhibits, is fantastic, and the knowledge of the tour guides Kai and Luke was second to none. Thank you for making our niece and nephew's day.

What a fabulous museum! Very interactive as my daughter said this is the sort of museum I like not like the boring ones where you cant do anything. You can go on most vehicles and lift real guns. We even got to climb on and in a Sherman tank! Fantastic staff who were all very friendly, helpful and informative. If you like war memorabilia this is definitely worth a visit 🙂

Very interesting visit. The museum has lots of interactive things for younger visitors and older ones too.
Don't miss the two sections of the mulberry harbour that are visible from the back windows. Downstairs is mainly US equipment and if you go upstairs outside to the German bunker it's got German kit.
Take time to read the story's on the notice boards.

Absolutely brilliant trip to this museum. Interactive displays where you can sit in the vehicles including the Sherman Tank. Kids handled the weapons and there were uniforms to try on. Plenty of sights and smells and interesting information to read. The staff have various uniforms on too including the small German Bunker contingent. The staff themselves absolutely make this place. They are so friendly and knowledgeable, they had my 12yr old daughter and 14yr old son enthralled with their tales and were more than happy to answer their barrage of questions. This non-profit centre is a real gem and definitely worth a visit to explore. Thank you for such a brilliant time!

We had a great family visit including the dog. Loads of great D-Day stuff to
see and touch(!) the guides were all very knowledgeable, friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting the area!

Should we see the Castletown D-Day Centre or the Portsmouth D-Day Museum? Unfortunately, we only have time to see one. We will also be seeing the Imperial War Museum in London.

Both the D-Day Centre and the D-Day Museum are excellent visitor attractions, however the D-Day Centre focuses primarily on the embarkation of the US servicemen who were bound for Omaha Beach, Normandy.
