The best part of our 2 week trip to the UK was a 3-day Highland tour with Iain! He carefully planned the perfect itinerary for our family of 5 (children 15, 11 and 11)- filled with castles, fairies, animals, Harry Potter and stories of queens and kings. He picked us up outside our Edinburgh AirBnb in a very comfortable and large 9 seater van. Iain filled our driving time with stories, music, poetry and answered all our questions. He knows everything related to history and his gorgeous country. Iain is a true gem in today's world- he talked to and cared about our children, knew when to focus on details and when skip them to hold our interest, personalized our days, and found restaurants and inns that could accommodate families. In the end, he became a part of our family! Do NOT hesitate to book with Serenity Scotland! If you want to visit the countryside and truly get to know the culture, there is no other way to do so. Our family already wants to come back and our 15 year-old insists that she wants to move to the Highlands. Scotland is magical and it's all because Iain brought the land alive.

If we could give 6 stars, we would! Our experience with Serenity Scotland was exceptional. Ian Stewart, our tour guide, knew how to pace the day, gave wonderful recommendations for delightful meals, and our lodgings were always first rate. I wouldn’t tour the country any other way! We saw so much in our 5 day tour, and learned loads about our Scottish roots. Tapadh leat, Serenity Scotland!

It was so enjoyable to go on a tour with you both. Exploring your family histories and some of the places connected to them was fascinating. Serenity Scotland works hard to identify the best value and quality accommodation and food options, which at high season in Scotland can be a tall task. I am so pleased that you were happy with our recommendations.

We couldn't have asked for a better experience exploring the Highlands with Iain (of Serenity Scotland). We made plans, thru travel agent, for a driver to help us get from place to place and were hoping our driver would be both competent and congenial.
Iain was so very much more!
What an absolute joy to be picked up each morning and whisked away to see the beauty & wonder of it all. At the same time we were driving or walking toward magnificent sites, Iain was enlightening us with the history and culture of what stood before our eyes. His breadth of knowledge was astounding - music, nature, folklore!
We can't wait to return for another Serenity Scotland experience.
Iain was so very much more!

Our experiences with Iain at Serenity Scotland have been informative, engaging and unforgettable!
The knowledge, thought and detail Iain puts into crafting a personalized itinerary, organizing trip details and including interests for multiple group members is truly appreciated. The level of communication while building your trip creates anticipation of meeting up with not just a “tour guide”, but a friend.
Iain is not just “the driver”. His knowledge of history, folklore, nature and geological landscape enriches your experience tenfold on tour. Without Iain you may never know that just off the hiway and up the side road is the most beautiful scenic view of your life. That the small mountain you are looking at is actually a sleeping giant. You might miss out on spotting the elusive Puffin or finding the best toastie for lunch. You may never know that you might want to “have a peek” at the BEAUTIFUL white sand dune beach with ice blue water just up the path from the washrooms you’ve just stopped at. You might miss out on his great humour or thoughtful conversation. You may also miss out on a personal evening fiddle performance, a spontaneous coastal cliff walk or a brisk morning ocean swim. Not to mention the flexibility to “stop the van!”, safely of course, and jump out for a photo of the breathtaking Highlands…or wildlife walking by…that adorable set of lambs…and yes, the Hairy Coos!
Iain’s expertise in his craft provides him the ability to suggest tweaking the schedule or provide location alternatives to skirt bad weather or crowded tourist spots to maximize an enjoyable and authentic experience for his clients. The consideration of daily tide times in our schedule to make sure we catch the tide out to spot dinosaur prints on ancient coastal rock or crossing the foot path to the Brough of Birsay is appreciated. His knowledge provides the understanding to find the church your grandparents were married in, or the farm where your great grandfather was born, along with the ability to provide a vision as to what daily life may have looked like “back then”… and that yes, they walked all that way to church! Let’s also include appreciation for sharing his knowledge to the small town Canadian “teens” of our group on how to safely navigate Edinburgh in getting to and from the Harry Styles concert!
Our six tours with Iain have included group demographics of ladies only, family (including adventure seeking teenagers) and seniors. While on tour, Iain has thoughtfully connected with each group member providing a meaningful, personal and unforgettable experience for all! We often find ourselves telling an Iain joke or sharing information learned to others.
These Canadians have loved each unique adventure with Iain through Serenity Scotland and are dreaming of “next time”!

The six tours on which we have worked together have been excellent experiences for Serenity Scotland too. We have worked with different combinations of Canadian family and friends, all with their respective interests and preferences, from prehistory to popular culture to genealogy. Working with people of different ages has been fun, as has seeing the young ones develop into young adults.
We hope we can continue being a part of this family narrative.

For those of you who do your homework and count on these reviews, I recommend you take Iain's 5 star score and double it! This was our first trip to Scotland with the goal of discovering my family's Scottish roots. Iain gave me his full attention months in advance to help plan this trip and it truly turned out better than could ever be imagined. He is a true scholar of Scottish and English history with an amazing gift to weave the facts into a memorable story that helped put all those historical castles, towns and scenery into context. He was also very helpful with other recommendations for accommodations, restaurants and shops! We can't wait to come back and explore more of Scotland with Iain as our guide.

We could not have asked for a better experience with Iain as our guide. We had planned the outline of a trip with our travel agent and expected that we were hiring a driver to get us from place to place, but Iain was so very much more. He was completely in tune with our preferences and made each day a fantastic experience. He even made dinner reservations for us! He is incredibly knowledgeable about the history of Scotland as well as the geography and important sites, and we learned so much while enjoying the beauty of the country. Were we to plan another trip to the UK, we would definitely work with Iain again. Thank you, Serenity Scotland!

My wife and I joined friends on a tour of Scotland at the end of April. It was perfect in that we were so busy leading up to our departure that our friends did all the research...including connecting with Iain at Serenity Scotland for a tour of the Borders, Edinburgh, St. Andrew's / the Coast and the Highlands. We are indebted to our friends because this was the time of our lives! Iain with Serenity Scotland brought a wealth of information regarding this amazing land, and his personal background and knowledge of the history, customs, music, food -- including whiskey :) -- current day issues important to the Scots as a people made this not just a tour, but the best kind of education. Thanks to Iain and Serenity Scotland we saw sights and enjoyed experiences that were not on any typical tour guidebook or website. Iain allowed us to see Scotland in a fresh way -- One moment we’re enjoying Iain’s tour through Sterling Castle brimming with living history – the next moment he makes it possible for me to play with coconuts at Doune Castle living my best Monty Python “fanboy” life (the site of Castle Anthrax). Even something as potentially ordinary as a guided walk through a postcard like coastal village with Iain took on a special and wonderful twist as he introduced me to a colorful local with a generous nature, making me a richer person for the experience of a new friendship. In fact, that’s Iain’s gift: He can make the ordinary become extraordinary! At the end of each day I would reflect not just on my collection of memories gathered, but on the amazing amount of thought and care Iain gave to each detail to ensure we had the best possible day. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about this adventure! Needless to say, we are looking forward to returning as soon as possible for the next chapter with Iain and Serenity Scotland.

We did a 10 night private tour with Iain - 5 nights in England and 5 nights in Scotland. He met our every expectation plus so much more! He was very knowledgeable about the history of the area. He took us to many interesting sites off the "beaten path" as well as the major attractions. Breathtaking, beautiful scenery. I highly recommend Serenity Scotland.

Traveling in Scotland with Iain Stewart is an amazing adventure. Iain plans the itinerary carefully, customizing it to fit the group's desired destinations. But don't expect the trip to follow the heavily-traveled tourist paths; Iain has an uncanny knack for finding the unexpected, the less-traveled: vibrant music-filled pubs in seaside towns, windswept trails leading to cliffs overlooking the sea, ancient standing stones and cozy local shops. Iain's incredible knowledge of his beloved Scotland, its people, its history and its language bring the country to life. And if you're lucky, you might find yourself sitting in a joyful musical circle listening to Iain, a consummate musician, playing his fiddle.

This was our fist trip to Scotland, but my parents have toured with Iain several times, this was their third trip with Serenity Scotland! Our 10 day tour that was jointly organized with Iain and my mom had us starting in Edinbourgh, working our way though many of the castles on the Outlander tour, up to the Orkney's, back down to though the Highlands, over to the Isle of Skye and then through Glenn Coe back to our starting point. All of our bucket list items were included and Iain has a wealth of knowledge of the country as well as impressive driving skills! The stories, the history and the folk tales are delivered with a sense of humor but always in a professional maner. Highly Recommended!!
