Challenge but enjoyable
2021年9月 • 夫妻情侣
I knew this would be a challenge compared to other walks and climbs but I was mentally prepared and we met some fab people long the route who guided us to the best paths and where to be careful.

We stay on the slopes so have looked at this mountain for a while and glad to have finally competed.

Recommend for a good challenging day out.

Just stunningly

Gorgeous walk, not too strenuous. Great views especially as the day was sunny. One of the sheep at the summit was so tame it wanted to join our picnic

Wonderful Views

Cracking half day walk up the Minffordd path. You definitely need a moderate level of fitness to enjoy this as there are plenty of steps at the start! The views are fantastic though and worth the effort. Navigation skills required.

A long hard climb, but we'll worth it
2021年8月 • 夫妻情侣
We walked up and around, main aim to see the American navy doing there training on the Mach loop, boy we were not disappointed on the day, plenty of high speed jet passes and at break neck speed.
Plenty of shots taken but on my slr camera and not uploaded yet.
Well worth a look if your into planes or aviation.

Fantastic family day out if you don’t mind a good work out!
2021年8月 • 家庭
We had a fabulous walk taking the hard / strenuous path with 10 year old 14 year old, a small dog and grandparents (fit/active). It’s a steep walk for almost the entire time, but it’s much shorter than the longer circular route. Also this route takes you through lovely waterfalls and rivers with beautiful purple heathers. The lake at the top is beautiful and worth a swim if you’re brave, it’s cold! (we paddled, lots swimming). We did the false summit which is almost as high as the summit and well worth the extra climb for the view over the lake and over the other side the view over the valley. Coming down is hard on your knees so keep that in mind. It’s slippery under foot and decent walking shoes or sturdy trainers needed. It was a warm day but it’s chilly at the top. The cafe had a good selection and was a very welcome site when we got back to the car park. The whole thing took us about 4 hours, but that included stopping for an hours long picnic and paddling. Enjoy!

Would have been great if there’d been any views!

We did the Pony Path, which I know is longer and shallower than some other paths but it worked for us. The paths itself is mostly well trodden - there are some bits that are less obvious but they are well marked by piles of stones (I know they have a name but can never remember it)

Things to bear in mind:

The car park is pay and display but does not take cards/on-line payment. In summer 2021 it was £3 for 4 hours, £6 all day. 4 hours is tight unless you’re pretty fit and don’t want to enjoy the view.

The mountaintop was rarely out of the cloud during our 2 week holiday. But when we started climbing, it was clearly visible. Sadly by the time we reached the summit, we were in cloud and saw no views at all. So if you want the view, try to climb on a lovely day, not just an ‘ok’ one.

The views we did get from below the cloud were spectacular but served as a teaser for what we could have seen

Beautiful but not easy hike
2021年7月
Fantastic challenging walk up from Ty Nant Car Park. Other than the first 20 min the walk is in open countryside with glorious changing views, You can see where you're heading for most of the walk so you know what to expect. A steady stream of people walking but not busy. Right at the top there's a bit of climbing over rocks but throughout the path is good and well marked, even if the cloud comes down then it would be difficult to get lost. We are reasonably fit and while not 'serious' hikers it took us just under 5 hours, our daughter would have done it in 4 but we slowed her, notably on the descent - we were pleased to get back to the Car Park. No facilities so take the required sustenance.

Pony Path - a lot tougher than expected!!
2021年7月 • 家庭
Myself and 11 year old son did the Pony Path up Cader Idris, and it was really good but a lot tougher than I expected, even though we're both pretty fit. The weather wasn't great and it was very low visibility from around 1200ft upwards (despite a decent forecast) which was really disappointing as we were looking forward to the amazing views, and it was also extremely windy at the top. We started at the Ty Nant car park (£6) which was ideal, and used the AllTrails app for navigation, which was perfect. A map and compass is also advisable, just in case the tech fails. The terrain is really mixed and quite steep and difficult at times, especially the last climb to the top which involves a lot of scrambling. We've climbed Pen Y Fan in the past, which is a similar height but this is a lot harder. Hope for the best but make sure you are prepared for the worst - you could very easily get lost, especially in bad weather and we saw quite a lot of people in trainers, shorts and t-shirts which was a terrible idea as it was very windy, cold and wet at the summit (in July!). It took us 4.5 hours there and back and was just over 6.3 miles. Also take plenty of water, as you'll need it. I'd love to do it again one day, to hopefully see the views, but may take a different route next time.

Tough but beautiful walk
2021年7月
Tough walk and really hard on the joints with the steep step constant incline and fairly dangerous rocky descent, which was very repetitive and hard on the knees. Not the best walk for a small dog. The views were amazing and you felt very accomplished with yourself. Lovely cafe at the end of the walk for a well-deserved respite. Would recommend polls.

Cadair Idris - a tough hike
2021年6月 • 好友
Having done Snowdon a few time decided on walking Cadair Idris via the Minffirdd path. The parking at the base was £6.
The steps going through the woodlands are quite steep and the scenery is excellent. Walking further up the path becomes steep and quite tough - however when you get to the first stop looking down on Llyn Cae is breathtaking.
We went on to Graig Cae reached the top and then you go go down and the up towards Cadair Idris . I found this part difficult and struggled ( not helped by cramp) finally reached the summit.
On our return we followed the circuit - it has been mentioned that you should make Sue you take the right path otherwise it takes you towards Mynydd Moel - unfortunately we did and had to scrabble down to the right path .
For us it took 8 hours up and down - I am sure it would have been quicker if I had not hindered them as I mentioned I really struggled on this one
