Family friendly
2021年3月
Good place for the family. Not at all crowded. Is entirely composed of rescued animals, so most of them are friendly and many will try to come over to you.
The downside of this is that there are multiple exhibits of the same type of animal.
The talks are great. You can pat the dingo, hold a lizard or snake and get up close to the koalas.
Bring the mosquito repellant though, as they don't seem to empty out the water containers that they put their tree branches in (for the koalas etc) . You can see mosquito larvae in them and and we got repeatedly bitten.
Good place overall though and worth a visit.

Excellent, lots of one on one talks with volunteers.

Very disappointed at negative reviews advising people not to visit . This is a rescue centre for injured wildlife where keepers volunteer their time. This is not a zoo! This place relies on visitors and donations for the public in order to continue caring for injured and surrendered animals. If you truly care about the welfare of animals then this is great place to visit, if you are interested in animals purely your own amusement then leaving scathing reviews is most unhelpful for those of that care.
If you do visit best to teach your children to be respectful and behave accordingly. My 4 kids did become slightly unruly towards the end so we knew it was time for us to leave 🙂

Wonderful Visit
2021年2月 • 家庭
We visited the sanctuary on a whim, and so glad we did! Staff were friendly and welcoming, and we had a wonderful “meet the keeper” with Daniel who took the time to facilitate a personalised experience meeting some lizards, a snake, the koalas and a dingo pup. Many beautiful rescued Australian birds, sleeping wombats and marsupials such as the swamp wallaby to view and appreciate.

Enjoy an up close and personal experience
2020年9月
We recently took our three grandchildren here and they loved it! It is an ideal place for children (and I would suggest visitors from overseas) to see, interact with and learn about some Australian animals. Although coronavirus has restricted the handling of the wildlife you do have the opportunity to get much nearer than you would at a zoo. The staff are enthusiastic, friendly and dedicated to caring for their charges. We purchased some food and drink at the on-site cafe and had a break whilst the kids explored the caged birds in this area. A quaint, impressive and educational encounter.

A small, personal gem
2020年6月 • 家庭
I often visit Jirrahlinga with foreign visitors. A wonderful introduction to Australian wildlife that is very easy to manage. Spend 30 minutes, spend 3 hours—you’ll have a memorable experience. The staff members are so friendly and always have time for a chat. I love the personal nature and the commitment and passion of the many volunteers. Well worth a visit!

Small and friendly - well worth a visit!
2020年2月
Local friends took us to this sanctuary, which they hadn't visited themselves before. We were all really impressed and they said they'll definitely be taking any future visitors here! Lots of different animals - perfect for children (although we were 4 older people). The man giving the talk about wombats/koalas was extremely knowledgeable and we learned a lot we didn't previously know. I was allowed to hold a wombat... and fell in love!!!! The temperature had dropped to a chilly 18o overnight and there was some drizzle from time to time...most of this sanctuary is outside but there are some under cover areas, inc a cafe. Such great memories and wonderful people who are doing such a good job - may they long continue to do so...if you're in the area, make sure you support them with a visit!

Disappointed
2020年1月 • 夫妻情侣
I wouldnt recommend this place. It is very shabby and many of the enclosures were closed. Hand written notes scribbled on bits of paper saying being refurbis9hed. Looked more like they had been abandoned for a long time. There was also a stench of urine. The whole place needs a complete renovation. Dont want to be negative but it could be so much better. Old, cramped cages that doesnt really support the ethos of protecting wildlife today.

The staff handling the animals were friendly enough and the price fair but toilet facilities were grim and not very hygienic plus no lotion anywhere to clean hands to protect animals as well as humans.

Did see a wallaby with baby in pouch but kangaroos and koalas were hiding.

Just hugely disappointed really. I thought this was going to be a sanctuary for animals and it turned out to be a rather badly run down zoo. I realise it is run by volunteers but they need an injection of new blood to get this place back on track.

Wildlife warrior volunteers at the sanctuary.
2020年1月 • 家庭
It is really sad when a wonderful sanctuary which functions to assist injured, homeless and sick animals is run by volunteers who are rude and pushy. Two volunteers who I interacted with today made my family feel unwelcome and were extremely rude. I am sure that the sanctuary assists many animals but it needs to be pointed out that visitors who attend the sanctuary have feelings too. I was shouted at by a volunteer who told my family to “go away” because they were showing a group of children through the koala section of the sanctuary. We were just leaning on the fence watching the koalas and apparently because of school holidays there were many visitors and this volunteer became agitated. It was a very unpleasant experience and after visiting there for 15 years I will not go back and left in tears. I realise that these people are dedicated to the animals but the Sanctuary is open to visitors at a high entry cost and should be welcomed.

A Must Do if in the Surf Coast or Geelong area
2020年1月 • 家庭
We ventured down to Jirrahlinga yesterday not knowing what to expect. This family and volunteer Sanctuary operates to protect and manage sick, injured or donated Australian Wildlife. It’s rustic appearance makes it all the more worthwhile and authentic and the fact that you can get really close to the animals is amazing. A must do if in the region as you won’t get this experience at many other zoos or Sanctuaries. Dingoes, Koalas, Reptiles, Kangaroos, Emus and cute cuddly Wombats are but a few of the attractions. A cute cafe is on site for refreshments.

Great visit
2019年11月 • 家庭
Came here some 6 years ago but now with my daughter in attendance was a chance to revisit and it was a really good chance to visit as we were perhaps 50% of the total attendance to the park at the time. We had great talks on the occupants from Darren, with my daughter completely taken with the Dingo cub. We were able to experience close encounters with Koalas, Pythons, lizards, ghekos, and other species. Very good visit.
