Went to see Still Alice last Saturday. Hadn't been to Lilydale Atheneum for year. WAs a great play and great acting. Prices are reasonable and staff are great. All volunteers apparently. I will definitely be going again. Great local attraction.

My first visit was for the ‘Picnic at Hanging Rock’ production. I thoroughly enjoyed how the play was directed and presented.
The building is beautiful and there’s ample and easy parking around. Good toilet facilities too.
A nice drink on arrival and after the play and you get to meet the cast.
The atmosphere was pleasant and friendly.

I attend this theatre regularly. Interesting plays are presented in a lovely old building that is part of Lilydale's history. Because this is a live theatre venue, the play presented will appeal to some audience members more than others. The current production "Ladies in Black" is a delightful musical play which is of particular interest to those of us who finished school in the late fifties.

I'm a long time attender and am still a play/show goer in Melbourne - the shows in Lilydale are close to my home, excellent quality, timed so you can meet friends for dinner beforehand, and excellent value for money at the normal price and even better when you subscribe as I do. Add to that comfortable seats, complimentary nibbles at breaks, friendly people offering programs (which you can recycle if you are not a collector), drinks and nibbles, and staff at the office assisting to move times if you find you have a clash with season tickets. In the parlance, it's a no-brainer.

First time theatre goers at a play...fantastic acting in a show THE WISDOM OF EVE..We were so impressed with this charming olde world theatre and the entertainment provided was first rate...why get ripped off in the city when shows are provided in the suburbs for a much cheaper cost...and just as good.Very intimate theatre..refreshments included...performers available to meet and chat to after show..a great experience...plenty of FREE parking.

The Lilydale Atenaeum Theatre puts on 4 plays each year . each production has a 3 week season .
The productions this year are Sylvia ,The Elephant Man,Moonlight and Magnolias and The History Boys.
The Athenaeum Theatre has been putting on productions for over 30 years showcasing lots of talented individuals. .You are made most welcome by the front of house staff and all refreshments are included in your ticket price

The Lilydale Athenaeum Theatre Company produces four shows each year in March, June, August and November. Each show runs for 16 performances including matinees each weekend. Tickets cost $25 or $20 concessional and subscribers. Subscribers purchase tickets for each season each year in advance. Meals are available pre show at Gracious Grace next door in the Lilydale Museum. Ticket prices include a program, pre show sherries, tea or coffee at interval and after show canapés and sparkling wine. ALL wine is now sourced from the Yarra Valley and the sparkling now comes from Chandon. It was pretty good value. Past performances have included "Breaker Morant", "Yes Prime Minister", "MASH" and "'Allo, 'Allo". The theatre hold 200 patrons and has recently installed new seating. The building is full of history. Built in 1888 it was the original Mechanics Hall and Library. It evolved over the years and was completely refurbished in the 1970's to accomodate the theatre. Melba actually visited there 14 times and performed there on 4 occasions. A room containing memorabilia is dedicated to her. Although it is an amateur theatre the performances are very professional and highly entertaining. A visit is recommended as you will want to return.
