This National Park has reopened after the temporary closure during the various Covid-19 lockdowns.

My wife and I visited this place for the first time, even though we have been to Mornington Peninsula around 10 times over the years. We have been to all the other various highlights in the Peninsula except for this Park, for no particular reason.

This National Park is very interesting as there are many attractions within the Park. We visited all of these:

1. The Quarantine Station which has historical significance and heritage listed buildings.
2. Gunners Cottage, where there are car parking facilities for visitors as this is where the road ends for entry to Fort Nepean.
3. Fort Pearce
4. Eagles Nest
5. Pearce Barracks
6. Fort Nepean (the main highlight)

We had a lovely time exploring the quarantine station and local beaches. We then caught the bus up to the headlands. Views amazing and coastline a treat. Gunnery amazing. Beware- we met a large tiger snake on one of the paths- apparently there is a lot of them. And sand flys were biting well. You need water and good walking shoes.

Entry to this National Park is free, but the shuttle bus is quite expensive at $13 each. So, just walk around the park - it is not long from start to the Fort at the end along a well formed track (around 2.5 kms to 3.8 kms depending on which route you take), with plenty of great diversions on the way.

The views along the way are awesome - at Harold Holt's memorial and at the Point Nepean where the entry to Port Phillip Bay is very narrow. You can clearly see Queenscliff at the other side of Port Phillip Bay and even up to Melbourne City (which must be around 100 kms away). This is a great place to get good photos, but aim to set aside several hours (don't rush it!).

Ok so we all know what it’s like to motivate a teenager to walk.. a bit of grumbling on the way but when we reached the tunnels at the end kids were amazed.. waking through the tunnels with the sound system scaring them all, lots of running and happy sounds. They were very interested in all the workings of the gunning rooms and how they were protecting our country.. ok so 2 of them may have caught the shuttle back.. but worth the walk.

It’s a must to visit! The quarantine station is so interesting, maybe more so now we are living through CoVid19 times, Cheviot Beach (where Prime Minister Harold Holt disappeared), Fort Nepean and the wonderful hills, fauna, flora, bird life, ocean and bay views. No dogs allowed (not even in your car) so leave your best furry friend at home. Take a picnic and spend the day, well worth visiting. Plenty of parking.

Had a very nice walk with heaps of history to take in and beautiful views and vantage points overlooking magnificent coloured waters. Well maintained tracks and roads, plenty of information signs. Just kept doing a fly dance as the biting flies kept finding any available skin to land and bite. Nice day though, just take fly repellent.

Great walks for all levels of abilities. Main track is wide and suitable for prams, bikes & all ages. There is a shuttle bus (fee) that goes to the end of the Fort Nepean walking track and back if you get too tired or can't walk that far. We started at the Observation point walk and then went around the coast to Fort Pearce and Eagles nest walk. Great flora and fauna along the way. Lots of information and the Defence history of the area. Memorial to Harold Holt. Came back along the Cheviot Hill walking track with beautiful views. That track is uneven and not suitable for little people or prams. So much more to see and do and will be back another day. Take food and water. Lovely place to picnic. Due to Covid, the water/drinking taps aren't working, take extra water. Car parking good.

Point Nepean National Park makes a fascinating day trip. The park was the Country of the Bunurong people, for whom the park was their territory. They are involved in the management of the Park. Point Nepean was a quarantine station. It was also a vital element in the defence of the Colony of Victoria, and became a military training camp. Visitors can explore the many forts and tunnels, and also take in the panoramic bay and ocean views. By the way, Prime Minister Harold Holt was lost while swimming at Cheviot Beach, presumed drowned, in 1967.. His body was never found. You can see the beach and memorial.

Been here few times now and I never get bored of the place.Awesome place to take the family and also for a picnic too.Very clean, surrounded by big trees, beach and bike path to cycle.
My girls had so much fun walking or simply running freely and walking along the beach looking for unique shells.
Lots if undercover areas for a picnic or tables scattered around as well.BBQ areas provided for those who enjoy cooking a bbq.
A big open space and historic site to enjoy.

Visited on Friday 14th February. We only managed to do the short walk to Observatory Point and a quick look around the Quarantine Station, it was raining so spoilt our visit to the National Park. We will definately be back another time to see the rest of what's on offer there.
