We found this park near Vanderbilt University and it has a great play ground, tables/benches, and a sea monster with mosaics. The sea creature is amazing and huge. We loved walking around to see all the unique pictures in the sea creature. Over 1,000 community volunteers restored it in 1988. There is a plaque near the tail explaining the project. Our kids loved the playground and there are plenty of benches for parents to sit on.

Within the park is Lily's Garden, the first handicap-accessible playscape in Tennessee. It opened in 2002 and was named after Lily Shaw, who was born with Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Lily's Garden has long wheelchair ramps, so kids in wheelchairs can play on the equipment with their friends. It also has swing for wheelchairs. And it has tables and chairs that look like lily pads.

Created in 1978 and named for a civic leader, Fannie Mae Dees Park in Nashville, Tennessee, is suitable for small children and family events. Located at 2400 Blakemore Avenue, at 24th Avenue South, in the Hillsboro/West End neighborhood, next to Vanderbilt University, it also is known as Dragon Park for the 200-foot-long colorful, frolicsome mosaic-tiled sea serpent that is the centerpiece of the park. Built by Pedro Silva, the sculpture was installed in 1981 and recently was returned to service after two years of renovations. Children love to climb on the sculpture, play hide-and-seek on it and take family photographs. But there are many other activities available, many different playgrounds and grassy areas to have fun or indulge in family picnics. There are tennis courts, a soccer pitch, swings for children with disabilities, a playscape for children in wheelchairs, a small climbing area, slide, sand pit, a mist sprayer and paved biking trails. Kids also play pirate among the bridges and ramps of a handicap-accessible jungle gym. Families take advantage of the multiple shaded picnic areas with a doggie water fountain. There are clean bathrooms, even a changing table. Some folks just prefer to read a good book while sitting under a tree. As long as they aren't bothered by the dragon.

We came here visiting Nashville and wanted to get our kids' energy out before heading back to the hotel. They had a blast. There were more than enough things to climb and play through. There was a water bottle refill station. There was a mist sprayer that allowed the kids to get cooled, but not soaked. There were bathrooms next to the play area. They didn't have lights and weren't spotless, but they did the job. There was toilet paper and soap, so the needs were met.
They location is next to Vanderbilt and is a quiet, yet we saw many people using the park in different ways. Some for the play area, some for walking dogs, some for tennis, some for riding bikes, and some for reading under a tree.
It is a beautiful, clean park and we enjoyed it.

I think my kids would be happy just visiting city parks during all our travels. And this is one of the best ones we've done. I wanted to go and see the dragon, and we did, but my kids preferred spending their time in the shade covered play area climbing and getting wet from the cooling mist station. A great place to let kids unwind after a day of museums. Would come here all the time if I lived in the area.

In the heart of Nashville, there is a small park that host a Mosaic CeramicTile Dragon. Fannie Mae Dees Park located at 2400 Blakemore Ave. It is right across the road from the Ronald McDonald House for Vanderbilt Hospital. There are tennis courts, basketball courts, playground, and benches to enjoy some peace and quiet. In the park is a huge mosaic tile sculpture of a dragon. All the tiles go together to make up a dragon, but inside each section is an abundance of themes that make up the sculpture as a whole. Culture, lifestyles, famous people, famous events, and so on, make up each small section. You can spend a hour or two just evaluating the sections. It is interesting to see how many that you can recognize or know what the section is about. If you are in the area it is well worth taking a little time to go and see.

I'm so happy the dragon mosaic has been restored!!!!!! I've been watching and waiting and last week when I went by, it was unveiled and people were back playing on it and enjoying its beauty once again. This is a great family park.

The dragon and rock hill were awesome!! Actual playground itself was shaded, so that was good, but just average playground equipment; however the dragon was so cool. The uniqueness of it and the mosaics made it double fun to climb and seek and find pictures etc. we even found Superman. Such a great way to play and get hungry before a walk to the Pancake Pantry.

Had an extended family gathering with many small children and some teens. We rented the pavilion for a very reasonable price for all day. The pavilion was clean with ample trash receptacles. The playground is very shaded with seating near for adults so you can watch the kids. The playground has a zero entry ramp for small children and others who cannot climb. There is a water fountain which includes a water bottle filler. There are several tables about among the trees for a shaded picnic. There are also larger open space areas where field games can be played. The "Dragon" is also a very unique feature. This is just a very good park for a picnic or play time with family and friends. There is also a coffee shop about a block away if you need a fix!
