I attend the Symphony for the first time since moving to this area within the last 2 years during COVID. A new friend told me about it a couple of months ago, but until I looked at the variety of things that were on the schedule, I had no idea what wonderful opportunities there were to see and experience so many wonderful performing art venues.
When I checked the schedule just recently, the concert coming up was "Disco Fever." I was just amazed that they would have something like this that was being performed. I went last night and it was nothing short of AMAZING!!. The conductor was energetic and full of life, they had the full orchestra, a small band that had the needed guitars, etc., back-up singers and two major singers (a man and a woman). I danced and danced almost the whole show in the aisle along with many others as well as those standing up from their seats. It was like being at a rock concert. I had such a great time at this event as well as meeting some new people, I bought another ticket for two nights later to attend again. Now that I know about this Center, I look forward to attending many more events in the future.
The Schermerhorn Center has made the theater extremely COVID friendly - COVID tests or vaccination cards, ID, a masking requirement and they have a great ventilation system. There have not been many places to go inside much of the last two years for those of us that did not want to risk getting ill in this area. I truly appreciate being able to experience performing arts once again in relative safety.
Thank you again Schermerhorn Symphony Center for such a gift for me and others!

Never knew about the York cat statues before. Great way to learn about it’s history and a great way to find your way around York.
Some of the statues can be hard to spot but they are definitely there.

A lovely place very old looking inside and posh. A little confusing to find my seats some staff not to certain as to where we should go, comfortable seats and a good view. Drinks were quite reasonable prices $3 for a coke and sprite.

The building is remarkably beautiful. Valet parking. The movie plays with subtitles and every sound in the movie is made by the symphony. It gets a bit boring for what it costs but it’s nice to experience.

Attended the SING! An Irish Christmas earlier this week with the Getty's. The venue was just beautiful and easy to get to. We chose to stay in a downtown hotel to alleviate any stress in parking and leaving after the event. The staff was attentive and helpful, very friendly. The venue itself provided the best backdrop for the Getty's concert. It was truly a wonderful experience in a beautiful building.

Went to see a Don Williams tribute with him on screen singing and the Orchestra in support. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
This is a grand building with plenty of space and a genteel feeling supported by lovely staff who were happy to chat and ensure that you made the most of your visit. Clearly well supported by the 'well to do' of the region we saw a large plaque thanking individuals who had donated $1m or more. I think some were in the audience as you got the feeling there was a mix of Don Williams fans and those present to support the Symphony. I may be wrong. We booked on-line from the UK before our trip and found the process of choosing seats a little tricky but in the event our seats on a balcony at the rear of the very large room were good value. So glad we found this event.

As a musician, I check the schedule for the Nashville Symphony for the days I would be in the city. Turned out the concerts for those days were CHORAL in nature....and I am a singer. I was very excited about the possibility of attending, but my companion not so much.
After we got there and I had booked a Sunday brunch at BB King's restaurant to hear some live blues, my companion decided he would try to the symphony. Having never attended one, I had to explain a couple of things to him, but we were seating almost center of the lower balcony, perfect to hear the choir, which was straight in front of us!
I was impressed that the chorus did not stand in sections for the first piece on the program, Serenade to Music, set to words by Shakespeare. The choir stood in random order, i.e., soprano next to a bass and tenor next to an alto, not the most usual with all the sopranos together, altos together, etc. This standing arrangement made for a wonderful blend in the chorus that not only made for stand out choral sound, but truly made the chorus another texture added to the orchestra. Most enjoyable!
The second piece was an organ concerto. The soloist was excellent and the orchestra performed superbly!
After intermission the chorus returned, this time in the standard SATB arrangement, to sing, along with STB soloists, to performance Rachmaninoff's "The Bells," an extended setting of poetry by Edgar Allen Poe. The words for both this piece and the earlier "Serenade" were projected on a screen above the chorus. Although both were sung in English, I think this probably made both pieces more enjoyable.
My companion learned a lot about the orchestra, about choruses and about classical music during this concert and I know he ended up enjoying it as much as I did!

Hello Denette,
There is no dress code at Schermerhorn Symphony Center, and we're not aware of a dress code for this specific event. We would suggest business casual, but it's entirely up to you!

I was thinking about attending the Felix Cavaliere show next June and was wondering what the sound was like from those seats behind the stage?

I never sat in those seats, but since the acoustics in the other areas is impeccable, I would bet it is great there, too. It would be almost like the sound sitting in the orchestra playing and you get to see every move of the professionals.
Looking for suggestions, ideas on clothing options appropriate for the symphony. Taking into consideration the season and style of music to be performed.
Going to see the music of Prince, starring Marshall Charloff. It is scheduled for November 8th.
This will be my first time to attending a symphony hall and I want to make sure that I'm not under dressed. The only dress I own is a black knee length. I've worn it once. To my husband's funeral. Don't think I will ever wear it again.
So, I'm thinking about skinny jeans or maybe palazzo pants. I love beautiful clothes but, rarely buy them because I spend most of the time in work clothes. The tickets are a special treat to myself and who knows how long it will be before I do something like this again.
If anyone has any suggestions please help this old lady out!

Wear whatever you are comfortable in :) . When I went to the Ann Wilson of Heart concert there back in June, I saw everyone wearing a variety of different clothes. Dresses, shirts and shorts, and many other things. Everyone was wearing their own definition of casual clothes :) . Also, if this helps any, I saw people dancing during the concert too :) . The biggest tip I would have is just have fun :) . I know I did when I went to the concert :)

We are looking into a concert here and will need a hotel also. Is it necessary to stay near this center or is there plenty of parking nearby? Trying to decide if we should book within walking distance or not.
Thanks.

Hi there! Downtown Nashville hotels have become unreasonably expensive. Unless you want the experience of walking all over downtown, you can find a less expensive option in other areas. Hotels in Vanderbilt/West End area might be a good option if you want to be close but not right downtown; the Uber/Lyft ride to downtown would be quite reasonable. Also, if you arrive at least 30-45 minutes before the show, you usually can park your own car in the parking garage in the Pinnacle building for less than $20, cash or cash. The Convention Center also offers parking; it is cheaper than Pinnacle but a little further away (maybe 2-3 blocks). Pinnacle is directly across from the Symphony if you are entering the Symphony from the rear of the building - very convenient if weather is bad. If you are ok being further away (20-30 minutes) you might find some cheaper hotel options in the Bellevue, West Nashville, Brentwood, or Cool Springs area. Each of these areas has access to I-40 or I-65 and many restaurants. Good luck!
I plan on seeing Harry Potter tomorrow and it is ochestra view behind the stage, can you still see the movie?

We will be attending the Jennifer Nettles concert in December. Our first time here. We have box 39 row 1 seats 1 and 2. Will we be disappointed with this selection of seating? I was late in purchasing tickets and these were the closest available. I have a genetic eye disease that prevents me from seeing well;the reason why I'm asking.

I will be attending an event here next week (Seth MacFarland). What is the dress code for the Schermerhorn?

Hello, there is no dress code for Schermerhorn Symphony Center. As our Maestro, Giancarlo Guerrero, likes to say: All you need is a pair of ears. That said, if you're looking for a baseline of what you might feel most comfortable wearing, I'd suggest business casual. But, as the commenters above have noted, you'll see people wearing all kinds of attire, based on what feels most comfortable to them.
Thank you for attending Seth MacFarlane, and we look forward to seeing you this weekend!

Is it difficult to get a taxi after a performance?
NashvilleSymph
Nashville
Hello,
You shouldn't have difficulty finding a taxi following the performance, as downtown remains active on most evenings, thanks to the nightclubs and bars on nearby lower Broadway. One of the most visible cab companies downtown is Allied Cab, which is easily reachable at 615.333.333.
And you can find a full list of cab companies by doing a web search for "Nashville" and "Taxi."
Uber is also a recommended option for getting around town.
I hope this information helps! Don't hesitate to let me know if I can assist with anything else.
