These people know their stuff. Went in knowing nothing about white water kayaking, and a few days later I'm hitting class 3 rapids. Highly recommend to anyone wanting to learn, and have fun doing it.

Great Rafting guide ( Garret) and Great Kayak instructor (Savannah). Saturday we did a full river rafting trip and we really enjoyed the experience! Never a dull moment!
We learned a lot from Savannah on our Sunday full day kayak lesson! We felt a lot more confident at the end of the day! Look forward to more lessons!

Ace kayaking school was great-- my husband and I booked 2 days of instruction with Josiah along the Hiwassee. Both of us had used sit on tops, but not much else. We learned more in those two days than we could hope to glean from many seasons trying to pick this up on our own. Josiah was patient and tried to think of multiple ways to describe concepts so we could get them more easily. Kayaking is full of concepts that are hard to put into words, but also have to stick with you when Adrenalin is pumping. Therefore, having multiple ways of thinking about these ideas, as well as the time to physically try them (and on multiple days) was key.
If you're on the fence, you should book lessons with Ace. They are completely professional. We felt safe the whole time, but also had some amazing whitewater adventures. We feel like we have the background now to have more whitewater adventures on our own in the future!

After a few group classes on a lake, I next had half day personal instruction from Ace Kayaking. A number of instructors later, I know how lucky I was to have my first day on any river with Brandon. I still remember so many things from my first couple of days.
Joe & Ace love what they do and it shows. They go above and beyond to be helpful and are always safe. I cannot recommend them strongly enough. If you're interested in learning whitewater kayaking or improving your skills, do yourself a favor and contact Ace.

Every interaction with Ace kayaking was professional and efficient. It is obvious how passionate Joe is about kayaking, and it will make you excited about it too. Our instructor for a full day of kayaking was Josiah. He really catered to our interests with kayaking, and taught us tricks we were interested in learning. We’ve kayaked for years in flat water kayaks, but really wanted to know the proper way to kayak through white water in a whitewater kayak with skirt. I love the way he teaches, as he emphasizes sticking to the basics to remain calm during new kayak experiences. Every person we’ve met through Ace has been obviously passionate about the sport. Really makes me want to spend summers in Tennessee practicing. I was impressed by the level of experience they have. They were super encouraging, able to break down the basics with enthusiasm, and never made us feel like we were incompetent. We will be back.

When we started whitewater kayaking, my family and my brother’s family spent Saturdays on rivers like the Upper Chattahoochee or Cartecay. We had a lot of fun. However, we didn’t know what we didn’t know. We lacked formal training and really had no idea what we were doing at first.
A few years into our whitewater sport, enter Joseph Alexander Gudger, the People’s Champ, and owner of ACE Kayaking School. Braeden and I had an ACE intern show us down the Ocoee for our first time. We were hooked...on the Ocoee and ACE. He showed us how to play the river.
Braeden was doing the Watauga move, throwing enders in Slice n Dice and so on on his very first Ocoee trip. Whitewater as we had experienced it changed forever.
Over the years, Joe and many other ACE staff have transformed our boating. I have found that the quickest way to progress as a kayaker is through private kayaking lessons and ACE is outstanding at delivering those. I spend a lot of time working on finer points (or, honestly, unlearning bad habits).
I wish I had known about ACE from the very beginning because it would have been easier to learn good technique instead of having to unlearn bad habits. I’ve found their pricing to be a very reasonable value given the knowledge Joe imparts each time I am on the river with him.
ACE’s great tool is private lessons. Whether with Joe or with one of the many other instructors at ACE, all of whom Joe has hand-selected and personally vetted (Kirk, Lynn, Morgan, Brandon, Josh, Josiah, and so on), you are hiring a highly trained class V kayakers to give you tailored, personal attention. They are very skilled at providing personalized instruction that speaks to each student based on his or her need and goals.
Whether it’s gear advice or working on technique, ACE knows how to help me improve. That ACE does what its does “for the love of it” is manifest in every lesson and every interaction.

I took a three-day kayak lesson with Joe, and he was amazing. A great teacher, patient with a beginner like me (class II) and always thinking about a new way to "turn the light bulb on". Not just a mind reader instructor who knows exactly the answers to your questions before you ask them, but a great person too. Three days of instruction for lessons that would otherwise take years to learn. Highly recommended without reservation!

Want to learn to roll, get started in whitewater kayaking, or improve your existing skills? Joe Gudger with Ace Kayaking School is your guy. I had a top notch experience taking a full day of personal instruction. I've already whitewater kayaked for a little while, so it turns out that I've developed a few bad habits. Joe was able to calm down some nerves, help me start to overcome some of those bad habits, and learn to use more of my core while in my boat. I will need to practice, practice, practice to develop some muscle memory, but that's on me. I would totally recommend Joe as an instructor, and I'd definitely recommend Ace Kayaking School for lessons. I feel like Joe tailors the class to fit you and your abilities. He'll evaluate your skills, your needs, and what you want to get out of the class. He also takes into consideration your comfort level. Take a class, and you won't regret it!

Honestly I can’t say enough.. i didn’t know what to expect when I let my 12 yr old son go out with Lynn.. they freaking killed it.He had his roll on day 5 and went from zero experience to taking the middle Ocoee in 5 days.. 100% safety training and so much fun for my introverted athlete.. joe the owner was so helpful and his whole outfit completely exceeded all my expectations! Even if we hadn’t had our killer results, they were patient and kind to a kid in an environment where walking away is easier.. he had fun and stands a little taller, thank you Joe, Lynn and Hunter!

Our family of 4 (includes teens age 16 and 18) had a terrific experience with Ace. From the email and phone call discussions to help in planning the right type of and timing for our trip. We had rafted the Ocoee and decided to take it up a notch with the funyak trip down the middle Ocoee. Our guides were helpful in training us on the techniques we would need including how to get back in if you fall out, which 2 of us did. Would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for even more excitement than rafting, and Ace is the only company doing funyak trips currently.
