HISTORY The Wetlands Center, located on the banks of Goose Creek, opened on January 26, 1998. Eddie Gray, a member of the Goose Creek Stream Greenbelt Development Committee, sought the committee’s permission to purchase an abandoned bowling alley and turn it into a wetlands center. In 1996, after the land was purchased, the Committee applied for and received a $350,000 matching grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to develop the center. Lee College and Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District (GCCISD) also entered into agreements to support and use the facility. Each contributes funds annually. The center property encompasses six acres. The 14,000 square-foot building includes staff offices, meeting rooms, a science lab, a computer lab and an exhibit hall.

They don't charge admission but rely on donations. This was very interesting and a lot of snakes, but still fun to go to just to say you have been there. May go again.

We enjoyed this nature center while in the local area. It had a few live animals such as turtles, crocodiles, and snakes set up in great displays. It wasn't overly large but a fun place for families to visit. The bird display was great to see!

The Eddie V. gray Wetlands Center is a great place to go. It is ideal for families. Good place to get the kids outside. Bring a lunch and a cooler of drinks. Plan to spend the afternoon. Also bring sunscreen.

Went with my son's field trip (10-12 year-olds) and the the kids and adults had a great time. The building itself is very unassuming but once the activities started I was impressed. The combination of nature talks and hands-on experiences kept the kids busy and learning for 90 minutes.

Went with a Volunteer Group from Jessie Jones Park in order to learn about the Wetland environment and obtain required education hours for Texas Master Naturalist Certification. The exhibit is very well done...both fun and educational.

This place is a hidden gem in Baytown, Tx. They are super easy and inexpensive to book through. Large room with tables and chairs available for a party. Guided tour of site by very knowledgeable/energetic guide. Had structured/safe animal encounters with bearded lizard, ball python, water touch tank, baby gator, rabbit. They do allow food to be brought in for a birthday party. Get 30 minute set up before a party/clean up after so if you are really decorating like we did...take lots of hands to get it all done. Overall, I would recommend this place because of it's science background and hands on experiences (I teach). Give this place a visit when in Baytown, TX.

This was a scout field trip. They offered a badge workshop for scout groups. They have a variety of workshops and rooms for all ages. While we were waiting in the lobby, some of our older scouts were invited to their lab area. They had samples of microscope slides for them to view along with many exhibits with live amphibians and other critters in nature. The guided tour of their exhibit area with live, small alligators was interesting.
