We had to bail the Gorman Falls trail with temps over 100⁰, it was just too hot. I wish they would post signage of how far the falls were along the path. They do have yellow signage but zero mile markers....

Colorado Bend State Park is like stepping back in time. The wildflowers were beautiful and we saw butterflies and honeybees. We went on April 18 around 11 a.m. Overcast day turned to sunny skies, with temperatures climbing to 90 degrees. We started on the hike to the waterfall but the heat and humidity made me realize I was not ready for this. The trail to the waterfall is rocky, uneven and on a slight downward slope winding through the landscape. We turned back and I was grateful to reach the AC in our car. I will get in better shape and try again when it’s cooler. Be sure to take water. Cell phone service was spotty on the trail. I give the waterfall 5 stars even though I didn’t get to see it with my own eyes.

about a 3 mile round trip hike I believe. A little difficult towards the end and you have to hold on the rail wire but my little corgi mix made it down and back up as he is agile and could come with me

Trail to Falls is 3 miles in/out relatively flat but extremely rocky so watch your footing. Most of trail is in woods so ideal for summer hiking in Texas. There’s a steep descend at end with ropes to prevent a total wipe out. We were not too proud to use them. Falls had a good flow vs a measly trickle; however, the moss was still brown & had not rebounded from last winter. Encountered lots of vultures, few butterflies & 1 armadillo. Limited wildflowers & trees blooming.

I enjoyed the falls, but unfortunately , there was significantly less water flow over them at the time of our visit. The falls area was beautiful though. The trail to the falls is rocky, and there is not much shade, you will need water and sunscreen. We saw lots of beautiful cactus along the way.
The round trip took us about 1 1/2 hours and was just under 3 miles. The final descent to the falls is steep and slick, but they do have wires you can hold to help you get down. It’s a cool hike if you are already in the area.

Beautiful. Loved this place. There was a cool little cave near the falls. My nephew said it looked like yodas house. Also saw a tarantula on the trail.

Moderate 30-minute hike on very rocky paths from trailhead to Gorman Falls, but definitely worth the effort, so just do it. Bring plenty of water. You descend over slippery, well-worn limestone at the destination, so hold onto the cable railing tightly. Return trip is slightly longer, since you have to climb up (while already tired).

Accessible by hiking in Colorado Bend State Park or by boat on the Colorado River. We tried to get there by kayak but the water was too low the day we were there so we hiked the next morning to see them. Great pictures and a platform to take a break and take in the view.

I’m 48 years old in decent shape. don’t under estimate this hike make sure u have plenty of water, dress for the Texas weather. I purchased hiking boots and I’m glad I did. It got a bit more difficult near the water falls.. it was well worth it it’s very beautiful💕💕

Gorman Falls was fantastic! The hike was very doable for anyone who is relatively active and healthy. My kids, who are 10 and 6 did it without any problems. The hardest part is the sun exposure and heat, but with adequate water and a good hat we were fine! The "steep" part at the falls that other reviewers complained about wasn't difficult at all. The chain hand rail made it easy and even my kids did it without any issue. The falls are more than worth the 3 mile hike. Beautiful.

Yes this park is very dog friendly. I've seen plenty of folks take dogs on this trail. From small-big sized dogs.

Looking to go camping for a few days with this hike as one of the main activities. Any suggestions on the best place to camp for access to the hike to Gorman Falls? The least amount of driving from the camp site to the trail would be best. If possible, none! Thank you! (I've looked online but am struggling to figure out what's best).

I think all the camping in the staye park is nearer to the headquarters which is about a 5 or 6 mile drive from the trailhead to the falls. There is also primitive hike in camping along the river but its about 3 miles to the falls from there as the crow flies probably 4 or so by trail. Wish I could be more help on the camping but thats all I saw. Helpful hints for you wear good shoes the trail to the falls is rocky if it is early morni g or has rained it will also be slick. The last drop to the falls is extremely steep. There is a cable but I also used a trekking pole for balance especially on the way back up. The falls are absolutely gorgeous well worth any drive or walk to get there. Have fun and enjoy them!

$5 per person. If you anticipate visiting a lot of state parks during the year you can get an annual pass for about $80. It will cover the entrance fee for everyone in the car for a year.

Any suggestions appreciated! I recently called Colorado State Park to inquire about the availability of private guided tours to and from Gorman Falls. The park only offers guided group tours. Any suggestions on how I might find someone able to help guide me to the falls and keep me from getting lost. Thanks everyone!!!!!

Maps are available and the trailhead and trail are well marked. Also, there is quite a lot of foot traffic along the trail so you can always ask someone if you are on the right path.

I wore tennis shoes and was ok. It was rocky and I did feel my shoe moving some so boots might be best if you have them just as a preventative measure.

I saw a dog that made the hike during my trip. The end of the hike is very steep and the "steps" between rocks is pretty tall. There are ropes for you to hold on to during the steepest parts, which could make it difficult to control a dog and keep your balance. It also might be hard for a dog to get down or up without help (the dog I saw was carried for part of the hike). Dogs are allowed on the hike, but know your dogs capabilities before committing to taking them with. My review has a few pictures of the steep part of the hike with the ropes that may help you decide if your dog can complete the hike.

Yes great thing about our state parks pretty much open 365, the falls may not be going though I think spring is a better time. We will be there over Christmas this year so I'll post again. 😁 Happy trails!
