Many of the trails are not maintained. We stepped over tons of poison oak on the trail. Make sure to bring your bug spray. Out of all the trails we’ve hiked, I’ve never encountered so many mosquitos and large biting flies.

My wife and I stopped here for a day hike while passing through the area. There are about seven miles of trails through the woods and around the lake for very scenic hikes. It was April and we saw a bunch of wildflowers blooming and several butterflies. We also saw some burrows, but no armadillos. The lake is very scenic and available for fishing and boating and there are campgrounds for an overnight stay. Nice place for a hike in the woods to enjoy nature.

Beautiful park and lake. Called on a Sunday afternoon to reserve for that evening and were lucky to get a pull through site. Nice size lake for fishing and paddle boating. Beautiful trees everywhere. Clean bathrooms. Large covered area with many picnic tables near the lake. Lots of grassy area to play games.

Nice day trip from DFW. We didn’t camp overnight. Relaxing, small lake. It’s very pretty driving up. Kayak and pedal boat rentals are available. Good hiking trails with tall trees and a lot of shade. The bathroom was clean. Plenty of parking spaces. The park ranger was helpful to us finding a trail. There is a swim area, play ground, volleyball court, and a pavilion area with a lot of covered tables by the water.

My husband and I stayed in at Bonham State Park for 3 days/2 nights in our travel trailer. We hiked all of the trails in a half day. We took our canoe out on the 65 acre lake, saw a beaver dam, a few ducks and nearly a 100 Canadian geese. We enjoyed seeing a CCC bridge, fireplace and stone benches. The campground was small (13 RV sites) and there was plenty of room at each site. The water and electric worked fine. Our Verizon phone service was good. There were 7 tent sites. There was always a bunch of liquid at dump station so we dumped at our next state park on our trip. The rangers was nice. We spent most of one day in Bonham visiting the historical sites and parks.

Pros: Clean bathrooms with handicap stalls, large covered spaces, hiking trails with points of interest, clean picnic tables, large RV & tent sites, horseshoes, sand volleyball, pretty lake with beach for building sand castles

We were here swimming at the lake on 4th July, 2021. Beach was surprisingly not that busy for a major Holiday weekend. There are sheltered picnic tables near the lake. Warm water.

We stayed here 1 night staying in site 9. The park is small with 2 camping areas. RV sites are on the lake and all sites are back in. If you have a 40' 5th wheel, do not pass the campsite first to dump. If you do, you'll need to drive the complete park loop to get back to your camping loop. It's only about a 2 mile loop. The park host was very friendly and helpful.

We had an awesome picnic and afternoon visiting today! The water was chilly and refreshing and very clear! We could see our feet in the water. The lake is more like a large pond but it was nice! We will visit again. Linda at the Park entrance was so helpful and kind!

Thank you for the great review! I am planning a family reunion for next year in June.
Was there adequate parking for 90+ people? Are the barracks separated into smaller rooms or is it one big area in each barrack? I can see the AC being a problem if there are multiple rooms.
