Earlier today I visited the Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History in Bryan, Texas, for the purpose of seeing a traveling exhibition on Jacob A. Riis (1849-1914), a newspaper reporter, author, photographer, and social commentator who worked to improve the lives of new immigrants living in impoverished conditions in New York City. This exhibit was well done and did a commendable job of conveying the importance of Jacob Riis, often referred to as one of America's first photojournalists, and his efforts to bring to light a variety of social issues. If I were to offer constructive criticism of this exhibition, I would have to say that insufficient attention was devoted to the cooperative relationship between Riis and New York City Police Commissioner Theodore Roosevelt.

Small, well maintained museum...good for a family visit..special exhibits always well done. A hidden gem in the Brazos Valley. Recently saw their bird exhibit...beautifully conceived and displayed.

This isn't a very large museum but it is full of information. The buffalo exhibit was very interesting and the mural on the wall is beautiful! There is also dinosaur bones, a wagon, gun exhibit, and living animals in the back. I'm not used to seeing animals in a museum that are alive so I thought this was pretty unique. It was well worth the $5 admission. My only complaint is the gift shop. It is very small. No t shirts or shot glasses for my collection but overall a nice way to spend a couple of hours.

We enjoyed ourselves and found the firearm exhibit the Most Interesting of all... The Dinosaurs were next and the live reptiles in the children's laboratory were the Icing on our cake!

This museum is well put together with nice displays and interesting things to learn. But be warned, it is very small and will take maybe an hour to tour if you go slow.

Good place to take kids or grandkids on a rainy day or a very hot afternoon. Lots to see and learn. And with good parking and close to shopping and eating.

For me the Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History is a gem of a museum. The exhibits are very well depicted, From the creating of linen, wool, cotton & silk in to material to make clothing, to the gem and mineral collection, Seeing a real Conestoga wagon with the Kitchen set up in the rear of the wagon. To the live creatures that live in the desert, and water area. This museum is a unique one A + to the staff ad those working to make this museum top notch..

I really enjoyed this little gem of a museum. We were there on a Saturday afternoon and browsed the exhibits. They have an excellent collection of dinosaur fossils and bones. Also a great display of guns from early Texas. Admission was only $5 per adult along with free parking. The gift shop was also a pleasure to browse through.
